Novablast 5 Running Shoe delivers explosive energy return with plush cushioning for daily miles

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"The Novablast 5 is a game changer for daily runs. It’s light and super responsive, but still offers the kind of cushioning that keeps my legs feeling fresh—even on back-to-back days. The trampoline-inspired sole actually makes you want to keep running, and the updated upper fits way better than earlier versions."

When we want to feel fast and energized on every run—without sacrificing comfort—the Novablast 5 Running Shoe is what we lace up. ASICS designed this shoe to deliver bounce, breathability, and lasting support for everything from long miles to quick efforts. Whether we’re logging early road miles or building speed in our weekly tempo run, this lightweight trainer keeps us fresh, fast, and focused.

Underfoot, FF BLAST™ MAX foam provides high-stack cushioning with a soft landing and an energetic rebound, while the trampoline-inspired outsole geometry amplifies bounce and grip. Up top, an engineered jacquard mesh upper offers a snug but breathable fit, and the tongue wing construction keeps everything locked down as the pace picks up. It’s one of those rare shoes that feels equally at home on easy days and workouts.

The shoe provides excellent cushioning, responsiveness, and overall comfort, with a bouncy and energetic feel suitable for various running purposes. Customers appreciate the lightweight and stylish design, and some have purchased multiple pairs. However, a small number of reviewers have encountered quality issues, such as midsole collapse or sole delamination, and a few noted fit problems. Perfect shoe for Train or Race

Great shoes for the distance runs. Nice cushion and still snappy.

Bad Quality

The quality of the shoe is bad I only had it for a month or so and it’s tearing apart already.

Best shoes I have ever owned

These are perhaps the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet. I can walk all day long with no foot pain. I will be buying another pair of these soon.

Great choice

I’m a huge supporter of ASICS when it comes to running, shout out to their great lifestyle choices too. My top running shoes were my Gel Kayano 31 which reinvigorated my running habit, I switched to the Kayano 32s & wanted another pair for speed training & decided to purchase the Novablast because of the color way & specs details. I am content with my choice, I haven’t worn them too many times for my runs but so far in my experience they’re a great, solid pair that are lightweight & don’t feel constricted on the feet.

Nice shoes - weird first experience

I was looking forward to an upgrade after running in NB2 and NB3 the past couple years and I have a half marathon I have been training for and wanted to use NB5 for that. The shoe felt light and bouncy. I took them out for moderate 5K, and they felt great. However, after 3k I could feel the right foot getting more pressure from the outside, like the shoe was forcing my foot to bend more inwards - which was weird. Later in the evening some discomfort started on this foot and by bedtime, it was soar. Morning came and I could not even walk on this foot. I am icing it and at home hoping it goes away and it's nothing. Unfortunately I have to return them. I love Asics running shoes, but this one did not agree with my right foot for some weird reason- hence the 2star rating.

Review on Novablast 5

First run I got some pains in my forefoot. Day after some mild pains in my calfs and Achilles tendons. After 4 or 5 runs I got adjusted to the shoes and the feel a bit more comfortable running. I would have liked to have the foam and bounce to feel a bit more like the metaspeed sky. Softer in the forefoot.

Quality daily trainers

They feel very bouncy and light with a nice sized toe box. Can even pick up the pace in them. So far so good!

So disappointing!

I’ve run a little over 150 miles in the Novablast 5 and I have to say that I’m very disappointed. Out of the box, the shoes feel great. They have lots of bounce and energy return to the point where walking in them felt weird, like your feet are being pushed off the ground. But the bounce disappears quickly. I bought these to replace my Novablast 4s which lasted over 450 miles before I started to notice the shoe going flat. These have made it only 150 miles… Reading other reviews online I guess this is common for the NB5 but it’s so disappointing. The NB4 was my favorite running shoe ever. For reference, I am 6’2”, 160lbs. I’m a mid-foot to forefoot striker and tend to over pronate. Pace for Z2 runs is 8:00 min/mile. 40-50 miles per week while training.
