Why We Built The Backcountry Cottonwoods GORE-TEX Shell Bib Pant
"These shell bibs have every box checked. From waterproof protection to eco-friendly materials, there's no reason for me to wear anything else at the resort. Even with the updated GORE-TEX fabric, I can tell the shell is just as tough as always." —Gearhead® Expert Alex
Whether we're getting the goods off Great Western on a pow day or seeking out sidehits in Minny Basin come springtime, the Backcountry Cottonwoods GORE-TEX Shell Bibs have us covered with waterproof, breathable performance in a earth-friendly design for big days at the mountain. We made this pair of shell bibs intentionally with an updated, PFAS-free* 2-layer GORE-TEX membrane to keep winter's worst at bay, along with robust features such as inner thigh vents for quick cooldowns, inseam gusset for added mobility, and a ton of pockets to keep essentials close at hand. Our favorite new feature is the self-adhering bib straps: with limited hardware to slow us down or make us uncomfortable, we still dial in the perfect fit for a full day on the hill.

New Go-To Ski Bibs
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- S
- Height:
- 5' 6"
These have been my everyday bibs for about 3 seasons now and don't really ride in anything else anymore. Especially love the tough material where the boot is so the ski edges don't cut into the pant. I would say the fit runs a bit larger, usually I am a M, but I have a S and they still have a bit of a baggy fit. Only critique is that I wish they still had the zip off waist, I really loved that feature from a couple seasons ago.

Haven't skied them yet, but...
- Size Bought:
- XL
These are freaking amazing QUALITY. I usually go XXL but sized down for these and glad i did. just a tiny bit snug in the chest(I think I will like that when skiing) but fit perfectly everywhere else. No way to review them from USE since it's still biking weather, but I'm super optimistic.

Great bibs, sized weird
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Med
I've needed a new pair of bibs for several years but never wanted to pull the $$ trigger. I saw these and felt like they had everything I wanted at a reasonable price. I'm 175#, 5'11" trim guy w/ long torso and short legs. I purchased a med size and everything fits well other than the snug upper waist/chest area. You can manage the snugness w/ the side zippers but a little elastic material in the back would be a great add. Really like the bibs and will keep them for sure. I may take them to my local dry cleaners to get some forgiveness sewn into the chest part, other than that, I really like them and would buy them again!

Wonderful

- Size Bought:
- Large
This is our 3rd pair of these bibs in our family now. All of us have them. They are very strong and hold up to tree runs, the park and icy runs. But yet are flexible and you are able to move around freely. Very happy with the quality and color selections are great- much appreciated that there are vibrant colors. Very comfortable and fit well. A Large fits perfect for our son who is 6’1” and 200 pounds.

high quality construction but simply did not fit - forced to return (do not think another size would remedy the fit issues)

Sizing is off
I wanted to love these bibs. I have the Cottonwoods jacket from 2022 and love it. However, as others have mentioned, the sizing is all over the place. The Medium was too small, the Large felt like MC Hammer pants.

The cut and sizing is totally bizarre

- Medium and Large

I’m honestly baffled by the sizing and proportions of these bibs. I’m 5'6", 180 lbs, and normally wear a 36–38 waist with a 30–31 inseam. The medium fit perfectly in the legs, but I couldn’t even zip up the bib—it’s ridiculously narrow at the top. I sized up to a large, and while I could zip it, the legs were too baggy and long, and the bib was still uncomfortably tight around the chest. For something designed for snowboarding or skiing, where freedom of movement is key, this makes no sense. I’ve never seen such a strange ratio between the legs and bib on any other product. I cant even tell you if it "Runs Large" or "Runs Small". It runs true to size in the leg but runs VERY small in the waist and chest. I would have to go up to an XL to get the correct waist and chest but would be prohibitively large in the length and width of leg. Just baffled. While I would have liked these bibs from a function, tech and price perspective, I recommend backcountry so a little more homework on the sizing.

Odd sizing
- Size Bought:
- Medium
- Height:

The material construction seems great for these bibs, but the sizing and shape seems off. I wear a medium in pretty much everything, shirts, jackets, pants, etc. (5’9” 175 lbs) These bibs are nice and comfortably roomy in the legs, but tight around the butt, and really tight around the torso. I couldn’t get the bibs to zip all the way up the side. Additionally, I was afraid to squat in these as I did not want to tear the rear open at the seams. I understand the appeal of a tight and form fitting apparel, but usually this is best with items that stretch. These bibs do not stretch, and due to their fit they resist your overall mobility. This is specifically bothersome when touring in the backcountry, when a full range of body contortions is used for both ascending, descending, digging pits, and everything else. Perhaps moving up a size will help out. If the fit in the butt and torso was a little more roomy, they’d be bomber.

Are the straps velcro?

What material are the "Self-adhering" straps? Are they velcro or another material?
