Icon 700 Headlamp

Sucks!

This thing SUCKS. I bought my first one a year ago, and there was an immediate short in the wire, so I returned it. The one I got also had a short, so I returned it. The THIRD one had a short, but in a different section of wire. I give up! Idk whether it was freaking broke poor ppl returning their busted stuff so honest people like me have to suffer; or these just suck. Either way, buy something else.

I've used it several times

I love every product I've ever purchased from BD, except for this headlamp. I've used it twice, most recently on a rim-to-rim-to-rim hike in the Grand Canyon. At 3 a.m., on the exposed trails when I needed it most, it failed at least 70 times. The batteries move around in the case and lose contact with the terminals, which causes the light to go out. In the dark of the night, when every step matters and when I had momentum, this is not a good situation (at all). Most of the time, I just had to flick the light back on. Sometimes, I had to bang the batteries around, remove the entire headlamp from my head, etc., in order for the batteries to reengage. It was aggravating at best, and very dangerous at worst. I contacted BD and they would not replace it, even though it's an obvious internal error and has only been used twice. BD makes other headlamps. Find something else that is more reliable.

Incredible durability

I bought this to replace my Storm R that I lost. And promptly lost this one as well in December. Found it today. It spend 5 months at a base of a tree in Ohio. Survived a few weeks of sun zero temps. Weeks of being covered in snow. Numerous rain storms, one of which likely submerged the headlamp for a few days. Replaced the batteries when I got home and it works just as well as the day that I bought it. I’m impressed.

Good Lamp

I mainly use this headlamp daily to garden/prune in the dark through winter evenings. I’m glad to find a waterproof design for use in the rain here in Oregon. Usually keep it on the brightest setting. I don’t like how the light dims to preserve energy when it senses battery level getting low. I can’t see well enough on the low setting to continue my work. I get why some ppl might like this feature but it is a hindrance to me. I’d rather there were a different type of warning that does not impede me or an option to turn this feature off. I would also appreciate an improvement on the plastic where the head straps hook on. I find myself having to adjust/tighten the straps daily because they slip a lot. I also bought the Icon Rechargeable Battery which has been great. I was running through batteries every few days with my previous Icon 700’s. Overall, I'm happy to have this tool.

Great headlamp

I purchased this headlamp to replace my 10 year old Black Diamond Icon headlamp. The old one was 200 lumen. The new one is 700 lumen and has the optional 5,200 milli amp hour rechargeable battery. I really like the headlamp.

This is the best headline I’ve ever had. That works great batteries last long

The best ever !

I have owned many head lamps and am blown away by the Black Diamond 700. The sophisticated light switches are incredibly useful and easy-to-use. I'll never go hunting or camping without it.

Hard-working headlamp

This is the second iteration of this lamp that I have owned and used. I put the Icon to work trail running, cross country skiing, mountain climbing, and camping too. It is super bright when I need it to be. I can change the colors or brightness when I need to. I can make the batteries last forever. It fits nicely on my helmet, but I can wear it comfortably on my head. This new version has an extension cable so that I can drop the battery pack into a pocket. This will be handy on Aconcagua this December.

A little disappointed.

I used to work with sea turtles in Costa Rica. I bought it for the red, blue and green lights for my work. From the beginning I had problems because the lights didn't work well. When I used blue or green light, they changed themselves or they didn't work at all. I stopped using the Icon700 because one of the wires broke, like old plastic, maybe it didn't have 100h of use. I always thought it was a very good headlamp, powerful, good light... but the lights and the quality of the plastic disappointed me.

Helmet Headlamp

Great headlamp. With the extra weight on the back, using it on a helmet is the best option. Overall balanced but heavy and bulky for daily use. Extremely bright and good User interface.
