Why We Like The Black Diamond Mission 75L Backpack
Black Diamond designed the top-loading Mission 75 Backpack to be a lightweight expedition-sized hauler for alpine assaults and extended backcountry trips, so hauling those massive loads at altitude won't be such a painful experience. The Mission's ReActiv hip belt uses a floating design to allow your waist to move naturally, and distributes weight efficiently once the hip belt is tightened down. SwingArm shoulder straps work with the thermoformed back panel to provide the ideal combination of flexibility and support, allowing you to cover more ground with less stress, which might seem wimpy but is essential when you're out for a long time and little rubs and hot spots start to add up and make you miserable.
A low-fat, streamlined design keeps the Mission light but, as you'd expect from Black Diamond, it has vertical DNA, so it doesn't skimp on the necessary features. It comes replete with a PickPocket ice tool carrying system, crampon pouch, and three-point haul system, so you can take your gear with you when steep trekking gets vertical during the final push. The Mission is hydration-compatible, too, so you don't end up desiccated like the arid regions you're moving through, and the padded hip-belt is removable to save weight and reduce bulk. You can also remove the top of the pack and stow your rope in the tuck-away strap if you're looking to shave off ounces but keep your essential gear close by.

This pack is everything I wanted it to be. Super well designed for use on alpine missions. Probably the best lid/brain design I’ve seen: adjustable, removable, roomy, has handy gear loops and the best shaped zipper I’ve ever used. The pack strips down from a roomy but streamlined backpacking pack to an efficient and well-designed summit bag. The ice axe/tool holders are great, the cinch straps are effective and numerous making for easy gear tie in points. My two favorite features are the crampon pocket and the hip belt. I hate padded hip belts that are too thick on your hips and constrain upwards movement. These perfect, the padding is minimal, sleek, stop on your hip (and fully removable!). Best hip belt ever. I found the pack to be supportive and well stabilized with 55-60lbs. My only wish is for slightly more padding on the shoulder straps. They probably top out in terms of comfort at around 50lbs. This is my new go-to-bag for multi-day mountaineering objectives in the N Cascades.

Best pack I’ve had
Bought this right before climbing Mount Baker then Mount Rainier. Absolutely the best choice I made. Zero complaints about this pack and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone.

Great weight for the size
Great weight for the size - carries very well. Had to send back to have the buckles replaced after first trip as they did not hold adequately to secure the lid or the compression strap on top. Warranty repair was quite fast and appreciate that!

I've used the pack with
I've used the pack with loads of about 25#s and 50#s and found it comfortable either way (relatively - I don't think anything over 50#s is ever going to be that comfortable). My torso measures exactly 19" and I tried and returned the S/M before landing on the L/XL. I do feel like it's a bit big for me, but the S/M was way too small. Being a little in between sizes makes the fit imperfect, but I'll put up with it. For the price point I'm still very happy.

Bomber Pack
Just took the pack out in its debut trip up to Nipigon Ontario to climb some ice. Pack was stellar. Padding is perfect on the hips, suspension felt great. Had plenty of storage for all my gear and then some. Tools stayed secure and crampons didn't leave a dent in the material. Very happy with this purchase.
