Ghost 17 Wide Running Shoe offers cushioned comfort and a spacious fit for consistent road miles

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I’ve always loved the Ghost for its smooth ride, and the wide version is a game-changer for all-day comfort. No pinching, no pressure points—just soft, balanced support and a roomy toe box that’s great for long runs or higher-volume feet."

With the Brooks Ghost 17 Wide Running Shoe, we get the same soft, consistent ride of the standard Ghost 17—now with extra room through the forefoot and midfoot for enhanced comfort and fit. This version is perfect for those who need more space without sacrificing structure, stability, or the plush cushioning Ghost is known for.

Updated with DNA LOFT v2 foam, the midsole delivers a smooth blend of softness and responsiveness, while added cushioning zones in the heel and forefoot ensure reliable comfort through every phase of your stride. The wide platform keeps things stable, and the engineered mesh upper made from 59% recycled content rounds out the ride with breathable, supportive coverage.

Here's what customers have to say

The running shoe is generally considered comfortable and well-cushioned, but some users have reported issues with durability, as the soles and treads wear out quickly. The fit and sizing also seem to vary compared to previous models, with some finding the heel collar too rigid or the cushioning too spongy. While the shoe has many positive reviews, there are also significant concerns about its long-term performance and fit.

Good for running, I’m sure, just not good for old knees

I’m sure it is an excellent shoe for a runner, which I no longer am. For me, the shoe is far too soft and “squishy”, wrecking my knees when walking in it. I wore Dyads for decades, running and then walking, and found them as nearly perfect as a shoe can get for my needs, but they have been discontinued and it seems that everything has gone to the super-soft foam, not good for old knees.

They’re comfortable and for their price I believe it’s a good purchase for anyone that’s starting to run.

Great for walking

Great walking shoe for me. Doesn’t drop towards the toe. Very comfortable cushioned without being ‘squishy’.

Ick

I’ve been a loyal Ghost runner since the Ghost 12 and have loved every version up until the 16. Unfortunately, the 16 felt off in the fit, and I was hoping the 17 would get back to the comfortable, consistent feel I relied on. Instead, I found myself having to size up to a wide for the first time, and even then the shoe feels clunky underfoot. It’s confusing and disappointing because the Ghost used to be my go-to daily trainer. Two years ago, my entire rotation was Brooks. Now I find myself leaning on ASICS and Saucony as my primary shoes, while occasionally cycling back to my worn-out Ghost 15s, which still feel great despite their age. I debated returning the Ghost 17s, but decided to keep them to see if they’d break in better. Unfortunately, they just don’t deliver the same smooth ride and reliable fit I came to expect from the Ghost line. Really disappointed to be moving away from a shoe I once depended on so heavily.

I’ve been using the ghost for years now and they never disappoint. My favorite shoe whether I use them for running or work (work as a nurse on my feet 8-16 hours depending). I require the wide size and these are the best when it comes to fit. I’ve tried the glycerin and revel but neither compare to how well and my feet feel like on a cloud with these. My only takeaway is the lack of color options for wide width.

My feet felt good as soon as I put the shoes on. I never would have believed that my knee pain would improve after wearing shoes that properly supported my feet !

Finally a narrow width!!

My husband loves these shoes this is the first pair of athletic shoes that he has ever had in a narrow width and they are so comfortable that he doesn't he's wearing them they are that light. After years of trying he has finally found his go to brand.

Unfortunately, I returned my pair. The inner ankle felt uncomfortable. I could feel something digging into my heel as I tried to break it in. The 10mm drop change from 12mm was very noticeable to me. Good news is I bought 2 pairs of the ghost 16. My excitement for the ghost 17 was really let down. Fingers crossed the ghost 18s bring back the 12mm back.

Unacceptable outsole.

Unacceptable outsole. 73 miles of use, and the tread has deteriorated significantly. If brooks doesn’t address this in future iterations, I will not buy from them again. Or, maybe this is by design? Also, they removed a previous comment of mine. Let’s see if this one sticks

Appreciate the cushioning and support. Hope the soles last longer than my last pair of Brooks.
