Max cushion and smooth transitions define the Ghost Max 3 Running Shoe for road-ready comfort
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I’ve put in a lot of road miles in the Ghost Max 3, and it’s become my go-to for recovery days or long walks. The GlideRoll rocker makes transitions feel smooth and effortless, and the nitrogen-injected cushioning is plush without feeling mushy. It's a perfect blend of soft and stable."
We lace up the Ghost Max 3 Running Shoe when we want maximum cushioning with a ride that feels smooth and steady from heel to toe. Brooks built this road-ready trainer with a higher stack of nitrogen-infused DNA Loft v3 foam to reduce underfoot pressure and enhance shock absorption without sacrificing energy return.
The low heel-to-toe offset and integrated GlideRoll™ Rocker geometry help guide the foot effortlessly through each step, promoting a smooth transition even when we’re logging back-to-back runs or walking long city miles. Engineered mesh boosts airflow while a broad base stabilizes without interfering with our stride. Designed to accommodate more foot shapes and provide added protection, it’s a dependable partner for anyone chasing comfort over distance.

Wanted to love them, but....
I've owned several pair of Brooks over the years, including the ghost 10 and 16. I wanted to love these shoes! When I initially put them on, they were so comfortable and cushiony, but after wearing them for a short time walking, my foot was sliding around the toe box and getting hot on the bottom? ...not normal. They became so uncomfortable and I worried running sprints or anything else would infact would cause an injury from just not keeping my feet secure. I did return them and purchased the Glycerin 22, which is my 3rd pair of Glycerin's and I love them. They are not only comfortable, but keep my foot in check and secure. The turnaround was quick and I appreciate that. Thanks for making that part easy.

If you like Moon Boots you will love these
They’re HUGE. Feels like running in a marshmallow. I don’t understand these “Max” versions because they’re nothing like the original version of the shoe. I got a ripple under the bottom lace because I had to cinch them so tight to make them fit, and I got a crease on the toe of the shoe after ONE MILE. The length of my true size was fine, the sole felt awesome and plush, but the shoe fit horribly on the upper. I’ve never stopped and walked the remainder of my run because my shoes were irritating me so badly, that’s exactly what I did with these. Returned. Don’t reply to me Brooks, get your quality control in line. I should be able to order my size in a shoe and it fits me but everything is all over the place.

They are a lot wider in the box and toe area than the Max 2. They don't feel like the same rocker motion as the Max 2. I would sometimes lean forward in the Max 2 and tip, but not in the Max 3 that seem flatter to the ground. At the same time I don't get the same bounce as the Max 2. I use mine for walking, discovered them after knee replacement. I'm torn between the two editions because I feel more spring in the Max 2 but like the room in the Max 3. So there you have it.

Walking on Pillows
AMAZING!! Finally found my perfect one again. These are incredibly comfortable. I have now gone on multiple 3-5 mile walks in these and am happy to report my feet and knees feel great! Nice wide toe box, perfect heel (no blisters!) and so cushioned you feel like you're walking on pillows! Now if Brooks will just keep this version around and not try to change it again, we will be good! ☺️

Amazing springy, plush cushion feel and nice roomy fit but heel area is TOO WIDE!!!!
I immediately fell in love with the plushy springy feel of the shoe as soon as I put them on and the fit seems perfect. They were nice and roomy, and I had no trouble fitting my orthotics inside. Once I took them home and put them on for a run, however at first they felt amazing but within minutes, there was a very painful chasing at the back of my heel.. it got worse to the point that I could not even walk with them because my heel was slipping up and down inside the shoe! I even put on a double layer of socks and some mole skin to see if that would help because I just loved the feeling of the shoe otherwise but no such luck. I wondered if it was all in my head so this morning, I tried measuring the inside of the shoe compared with my other Brooks styles and even took out the insoles and measured the width of the heel for these versus the glycerin. I discovered that on the size 10 that I wear the heel is 1/4 inch wider than my other pairs. I really wanted to love this shoe. It’s very well-made. Has a nice roomie fit and an amazing springy plush feel on the bottom, but the heel area is just too wide for me resulting in a poor fit.

Total cloud sneakers. They cracked the code and made the shoelace holes wider apart so that these wide toebox sneakers don't pucker when you tie them.

Incredibly comfortable for walking
I received my new shoes today and they are incredibly comfortable shoes! Great cushioning. Great colors (navy/peacoat/clearwater). Reasonably roomy given that I use orthotic inserts which cause me to need a wider shoe. Very happy though that I can get them in this blue combination. Very cute shoes. My shoes will be used primarily for walking. Thanks to the cushioning I will be able to increase my walking. 🩷
