Week-long ice retention in the Prospector 103qt Cooler
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I pulled ice-cold beers on day nine of a desert river trip—no joke. The Prospector latches are glove-friendly and the tie-down slots line up perfectly with raft frames."
Multi-day floats, basecamp hunts, or backyard barbecues—the Canyon Coolers Prospector 103qt keeps ice solid and drinks frosty long after lesser coolers tap out. Rotomolded armor and raft-frame compatibility prove it's built for wild water, while cavernous space means the only limit is how much adventure fits in the truck.

the only cooler built for a raft
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
After struggling with other coolers, trying to float them with NRS straps for too long I found this. If you have a frame with adjustable rails this is the only cooler you should get! The other reviewer mentioned not being able to get the latches open easily when its mounted on the frame. Well, they actually sell little risers for this exact purpose, although they are easy enough to make yourself if you'd like to save a buck. The other issues they mention were not an present on my cooler. Its been a great cooler that has seen me down many river adventures. Still looks good as new and I'm looking forward to using it for years to come. I also manage to find uses for it off the river. Great for big parties and mine has rested many a brisket until dinner time too.

Buy from a different vendor.
- Size Bought:
- I would have liked a 103.
I never got the cooler. Originally there was a problem with the credit card and or address. I called Backcountry on two occasions to confirm the data was correct ( I did move last year). The cooler never shipped. I had used my veteran discount thinking I would get a good deal but all I got was a waste of my time.

The GOAT boat cooler
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 103 qt
I bought this after a big boating season. I had been struggling with a smaller cooler. The fit and rigging for this is excellent. Fits perfectly on the NRS frame of my e-142. protected latches and strap routing are amazing.

Cooler seemed to be nice at least looking at it online……but here are a few nitpicks: 1: you can’t open the cooler when it’s resting on crossbars because there’s no room under the latches to lift the latch. You must either create some spacers to sit under the lip and above the crossbar to give your finder room enough to lift the latch. One could also drill a hole in the base of the rubber latch to use as a pull cord. 2: Putting anything ext to the cooler in an adjacent bay will require another crossbar. 3: the fit and finish of this cooler is terrible. The lid is not aligned with the base creating noticeable misalignments like a middle school schooler the day before braces. The holes for the locks are completely off and require drilling out before a lock will fit. 4: I purchased the lime green one expecting a white lid as the picture shows, but my lid was also lime green. 5: there are no cable or cord retainers for the drain plugs. 6: the plastic surrounding the hinge rod is noticeably reduced as compared to Yeti’s resulting in a ton of flex and play. Yes. It stays cold, just like it’s other $500 competitors, but it feels and looks like it should cost half as much.
