Why We Like The Niad VCS Climbing Shoe

If our route has more than three pitches, we strap on Five Ten's Niad VCS Climbing Shoe to keep our feet happy for a day on the wall. The unlined upper lets our feet breathe while providing weather-resistance, durability, and buttery smooth softness no matter how cold it gets at the crag. Since the microfiber upper doesn't deform with age like leather, we easily get three resoles out of every pair.

Customer Images

Here's what customers have to say

The reviews indicate that the climbing shoes generally run small and require sizing up by at least 1-1.5 sizes from the customer's normal street shoe size for a proper fit. Many had to exchange the shoes for a larger size, with some going up as much as 2 full sizes, to get a comfortable fit. The shoes are described as high-quality and great for climbing performance, but the sizing issues are a common complaint. The consensus is to measure carefully and order at least 1 size up from your normal shoe size for the best fit.

Comfort without losing performance

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great comfort shoe for those with a longer 2nd toe.

Nice!

Been using these for indoor bouldering. They’ve been more comfortable than other performance climbing shoes I’ve used before and I still have no trouble getting my toes on small holds.

Size is a disaster.

I used 5.10 anasazi for many years, but the same sizing for NIAD does not fit. Also one full size bigger is too narrow and after half a year still painfull to wear. I will look for other shoes

Buy 1.5 size up from normal wear

I originally bought this in a size 9. I wear size 8.5 for street wear. I had to exchange and get a size 10 and it fits great now. Still a snug fit but it's not suffocating my feet like the size 9. Definitely buy 1.5 size bigger than your normal street size for a better fit.

Solid climbing shoe

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good shoe. A little stiff. Probably would have hit a half size larger that LaSportiva. But maybe it will stretch.

Reliable and comfortable.

Surprisingly capable for a flat lasted climbing shoe. I’ve been climbing for almost 3 years now and use this as my comfy indoor training shoe and for outdoor climbing. I went half size down from my street/running shoe size, I would even consider going a full size down to fill out all the dead space if I needed to stand on micro crystals. Overall Im very pleased with my purchase, and will miss Five Ten’s presence in the climbing world as their alpine department slowly phases out.

It is good

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The perfect all-in-one shoe. I tend to get through a pair every 4.5/5 months, climbing 3 or 4 times indoors per week.

Do not buy these

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The most uncomfortable climbing shoes I have ever worn. The sizing is completely wrong too - you need to buy 1.0 sizes above your size for them to even fit, I’m a 9.5 and the 10 are unbearable
