Why We Like The Fjallraven Abisko Varm Trekking Tight

Norwegian-based Fjallraven knows how to do cold—which is why we like the Abisko Varm Trekking Tight for hiking and running in chilly weather. The double-knitted stretch fabric features a brushed polyester lining on the inside for some light insulation and wind-blocking panels on the outside to blunt the bite of the wind. Cordura patches over the knees add durability and abrasion-resistance, and the reflective trim makes us more visible in low light. Insulating, water-resistant, wind-resistant, and abrasion-resistant, these tights let us take on almost any trail and any weather that fall and winter throw at us.

MOST RUGGED LEGGING I HAVE FOUND

Own 4 pairs of 2020-22 Abisko leggings and have worn them extensively in high elevation Rocky Mountains hiking in fall/winter weather. Perfect to 40sF with good wool socks. Colder than that I wear wool base layer underneath these leggings, for very cold wet conditions I may layer leg warmers on top! I have gone bouldering, climbing, trail running, snow shoeing in these. They have never ripped despite tons of abuse. I have had bad falls that has gashed my skin underneath the legging (without ripping the legging). 1 pair the fabric has lost elasticity and I am hoping Fjallraven can do something ? about it. Personally I love the freedom of movement leggings give on trail and I need very rugged leggings. These are the best I have found yet.

Comfortable but still durable

I think Fjällräven really succeeded it balancing the comfortability of tights with the durability required for trekking in forests. These are a perfect combination of the two- flattering and well fitting tights that hold up to the scuffing and scratching that comes with trekking through a natural environment. They still look brand new after several washes and many many treks. The added warmth is such a nice bonus!

Probably more for autumn months…

So I’ve been wearing Fjallraven’s Trekking Tights HD all summer here in Alaska and have been really excited to purchase these for winter hiking. I’ve decided that leggings are much more comfortable for me because I love the freedom of unrestricted movement. I got them in the mail today and was deeply skeptical of their warmth rating due to them being paper-thin. They didn’t seem that much thicker than the other Fjallraven tights I wear. So I took them on a trial walk around my neighborhood in 24 degrees F and my legs were very cold. By the time I got home the skin on my legs were red, and I was gone for only a half hour. Oddly enough, the coldest part of my legs were my thighs - where the wind panels were supposed to be. So I wouldn’t recommend these for winter hiking, but maybe they will be warmer with more strenuous exercise. And yet I don’t think I will risk ruining a mountain hike by trying these out again. Perhaps they will be better in the interim seasons like spring or autumn. I am on the fence if I am going to return them or not. I’ll probably hang onto them because they are very comfortable and soft. Fjallraven is my favorite brand, so it makes me sad to leave this review. I am 5”7 and 140lbs. The medium fits perfectly.

Love

Went hiking in the Lake District and discovered my abisko tights were too large. Fortunately, I found a Fjallraven vendor and found these tights, which turned out perfect as I need a bit more insulation. I love the feel of these. They kept me warm on some pretty brutal days. They dry quickly. I am absolutely in love with Fjallraven tights, and these are a new favorite.

Disappointed in quality

I was really excited to get these Trekking tights. All other product I own have been very high quality. I love this brand however on my first trek in these tights, I rubbed my leg on a rock and the tights ripped just below the knee. I do not think it was aggressive enough to rip my pants and I am really disappointed in the quality for the price. The pockets are nice and I was warm and comfortable throughout the trek. Wish they were better quality for the backcountry.

Best Men’s Tights

After 2 years wearing these in most color (I own 6 pairs), I can promise to the guys out there the thickness of the tissue finally allows a pair of tights to be worn by men without the ‘bump’ showing. Humble yet sexy. I am 6’3” and 100kg and started with the L. Actually the M even fits. Pricy but unkillable.

Absolutely LOVE these tights

First let me say that I'm not a person who wears tights - never have been - but these have changed my mind. I was on the fence about ordering for the longest time and I'm so glad I finally did. They are thick enough that they feel more like pants to me and oh, so comfortable. The waistband is high, but not too high and the overall fit is just perfect. The leg pockets are deep and secure and the reflective piping at the ankles is a really nice touch. I had thought I might need to wear long underwear with them to be warm enough, but the wind proof panels are a life saver and they are plenty warm if you keep moving. (*An added bonus is that dog hair does not stick to them!) I'm 5'6, 140 lbs, average build and the Medium fits perfectly (In the Keb's I wear a 38EU)
