Why We Like The Garmin inReach Mini 2
The inReach Mini 2 gives us the same compact communication means as its predecessor but now with loads more battery life and features. Rather than lasting hours, it lasts days, letting us use it for much more than just check-ins on our multi-day missions. With the new ability to sync with Garmin Explorer, we can plan our course on the computer screen and save it to this palm-sized device. As we venture well beyond cell coverage, the new electronic compass gives us an accurate heading as we stand still, while the addition of Galileo gives us a quicker and more precise satellite lock, even with some tree cover. If we get turned around, the addition of TracBack routing helps us find our way.

Easy to use
Bought a month ago and so far (thankfully) I have not had to test the SOS feature. I ride a lot of back country trails on my bike solo and my Mini 2 gives my wife peace of mind to have regular positional updates and messaging ability if necessary.

Must-have electronic for backcountry adventurers
I love the mini inreach (just upgraded from the first gen) and it is well worth the investment. It’s so small and lightweight that I throw it in my pack regardless the distance or type of adventure because I’m often outside of service range. I love that I can carabiner it to my shoulder strap (it’s small enough to be narrower than the width of a shoulder strap and also not bang into your cheek or get in the way) and there if I need it. Paired with the phone app, this thing is amazing. Easy texting and tracking. Love it.

Thankfully we have not needed for emergency however has definitely given us great security. Hiked the Wave it was 121’ definitely a tough day & 15 miles was a lot in that heat . We definitely were much safer with our garmin

Love this product. Use it all the time when we are out of cell service both at work and at play as a text communicator. Also love the local when in the back country.

Best thing to have while in the backcountry. I recommend linking it to the app for better usage.

Fantastic. Works as described
I lead groups of Scouts and adults into the wilderness. It allows us to update our position and keep the parents informed. The bonus is the ability to connect to help if really needed.

Mixed
The InReach was highly reviewed on several outdoor gear sites, so I was stoked to use it. However, I found the installation/set up process exceedingly complicated. Multiple screens, most of which were not user friendly. Instructions were of only marginal assistance. Installing and figuring out how to sync the Messenger app was also not easy. Finally, though Messenger app works well, typing messages on the InReach screen is tedious using the alphabet chart onscreen. This is possibly due to how small the screen is. I do wish the reviews I read noted this "feature" and how small the screen is.

Unsuccessful
I was unable to figure out how to take advantage of the many features I paid for. Not a useful device for ludites.

Peace of Mind on the Trail
Garmin nailed it with the inReach mini. Connectivity with the explore and message app allow for seamless messaging via your phone. Subscription is needed, but can be paused. As a scout leader we always carry a satellite device, and this has not let us down. One nice feature is ability to upload GPX files which can be downloaded from an app like AllTrails.

works great
bought this because of the places I like to go and there is zero cell service. Just used it on an antelope hunt with my son and was able to stay in touch with my wife and keep her updated on what was happening.
