Gravel-ready comfort and traction in the Gritter Mountain Bike Shoes

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I wore the Gritter on a mixed-surface ride with everything from buffed singletrack to chunky gravel roads, and they felt dialed. The fit is comfortable but secure, and the outsole grips well when I’m off the bike. I like how the micro-adjust BOA makes mid-ride tweaks easy. These are quickly becoming my go-to for big mixed-terrain days."

From singletrack to fire roads, the Giro Gritter Mountain Bike Shoes are made for the in-between adventures where clip-in efficiency meets off-bike flexibility. Designed by Giro to excel in rugged and variable terrain, the Gritter gives us the confidence to grind miles on the pedals and the grip to scout that rideable line on foot when the trail gets dicey.

The secret sauce is Giro’s tough-yet-comfy Synchwire upper, reinforced for durability but breathable enough for hot days in the saddle. Underfoot, the lugged rubber outsole and dual-injected nylon plate create the perfect blend of power transfer and walkability. The BOA® L6 dial provides precise fit adjustments with one hand, and a stout toe box keeps our feet protected when things get rough. Whether we're chasing KOMs or out for all-day exploration, the Gritter strikes the right balance.

Not worth the money

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have a set of Giro Imperials for the road and I love them. Super light, comfortable, great power transfer, very breathable and don't retain a lot of moisture from rain or sweat. I was hoping the Gritter would essentially be a 2-bot version of the imperial with a little added toe protection and lugs for hike a bike. Well, they aren't really. The upper is a lot thicker, heavier, and less breathable, it seems to hold onto every ounce of sweat. These are quite heavy for a race oriented shoe, about 80g/shoe heavier than my pearl izumi expeditions. The traction walking is just ok. I think removable studs are useless unless you are scrambling up a hill in a CX race. Where I am, I do most of my hike-a-bikes on creek crossings and steel tipped studs make shoes more dangerous on wet rocks and roots. Power transfer is fine but definitely not as snappy feeling as my old ec90 empires or my Pearl expeditions. Overall they feel and perform like a shoe that costs half this much meaning they are not at all a terrible shoe but not worth the price.
