Classic leather Wakayama Glove with timeless style and everyday versatility

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"The Wakayama Glove is one of those rare pieces that feels as good on the mountain as it looks off it. The leather breaks in beautifully, the wool-terry lining keeps hands warm even when damp, and the retro paracord wrist cinch gives it that vintage ski vibe with real function. Treat the leather once or twice a season and they’ll last for years."

Inspired by classic mountaineering design and crafted with modern precision, the Hestra Wakayama Glove delivers warmth, grip, and timeless appeal both on and off the slopes. Made from smooth, impregnated cowhide leather, this glove provides natural weather resistance and rugged durability that only gets better with use. Inside, a plush wool-terry lining traps heat and wicks moisture to keep hands warm and dry during cold days on the mountain or winter walks around town.

External seams improve grip and reduce interior bulk, while an adjustable paracord at the wrist allows for a custom, secure fit. The internal neoprene cuff seals out snow and wind, and the included wrist straps keep your gloves close when you need to take them off. From powder laps to après-ski lounging, the Wakayama’s blend of vintage styling and Hestra craftsmanship make it a standout for winter adventurers who value comfort and character.

Most comfortable glove I have every worn

I have wanted these gloves for several years, and with the sale, I finally pulled the trigger. These are by far the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn in my entire life. The unique lining is soft and incredibly warm. The retro cinch straps work great, and the gloves are a beauty to behold. I haven't put them through the ringer yet, but I have worn them on half dozen occasions on cold leisure walks and so far they have met/exceeded expectations.

Vast inconsistencies

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

On the first pair I received from Backcountry, two of the fingers on the right glove had about 5/8” extra material than the left glove/all other fingers. They quickly processed a replacement for me. However, the second pair arrived and is a very different color/leather texture/consistency (fingers are all the same length, at least!). I realize quality leather products generally have inconsistencies from item to item, but the difference here is pretty stark, as the first pair was quite smooth and the second is very wrinkly. Curious if this is a known Hestra issue, if Backcountry has a “bad batch”, or what. I have been waiting to hear back after calling them again, guess we’ll see!

Hestra gloves really are the best

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I already had a pair of lobster-style leather glove/mittens from Hestra (Fall Line) that I've used for skiing the past couple seasons and love them, but I wanted something I could wear day-to-day away from the slopes. The Wakayama are just as warm and durable as my other pair of Hestra gloves but come in a form factor that's a little more casual. If you want the best gloves, Hestra is the way to go.
