Runs way too large

My go to shorts size is a Medium. I tried on the shorts as soon as they arrived, and I wish I ordered a smaller size. Now I have to pay $8.99 to return and then reorder the shorts in a smaller size. Now the shorts are more expensive than what I purchased them for, so I will not be ordering the smaller size. I'm kind of bummed about it.
