Versatile Tarantulace offers comfort, durability, and reliable grip for new climbers
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"The Tarantulace is the go-to shoe I recommend to anyone learning to climb or looking for an all-day comfort option. It’s supportive enough for long routes, forgiving enough for gym sessions, and durable enough to last through seasons of use. It’s the perfect balance between performance and comfort, especially once that leather upper breaks in."
From first gym sessions to easy multi-pitch climbs, the La Sportiva Tarantulace Climbing Shoe delivers a dependable blend of comfort and control that keeps us focused on the next move. Its flat last and roomy toe box provide a relaxed fit for longer sessions on the wall, while the unlined leather upper molds to our foot shape for a customized feel over time.
The tough FriXion RS rubber offers the sticky grip we need for confident edging and smearing, while the 1.8mm LaspoFlex midsole maintains solid support without feeling stiff. The updated lacing harness cinches evenly for a precise fit and minimizes stretch so the shoe stays secure even after heavy use. Whether we’re dialing in footwork indoors or tackling our first trad routes outside, the Tarantulace delivers the all-around performance that’s made it one of La Sportiva’s most popular models.

I am less than an average climber. This is my 5th pair of Tarantulas, great for the gym and long days in easy multi-pitch climbs. Feel like sandals after breaking them. If you are a weekend warrior and starting to climb, this is my go-to suggestion for sure. I would downsize it by at least half a number at first and 1.5 once you really get into it

To preface, I go to the climbing gym every other day for an hour up to three hours. I got a size to match a tight fit street shoe and found them to be comfortable. However, after 2 months of this routine and climbing, I have already had a rub-through of the rubber cap on the toe. While I dont have a basis for comparison, I did feel disappointed that they already show this wear. They are still able to be used, but I can imagine an other month and that hole will only get bigger. I would probably not buy these unless they had a discount like I had before.

La Sportiva Turantulace
I have the Miuras in a 44.5 that are really tight, so I wanted a more comfortable shoe for gym climbing. I got the Trantulace in 45 and had to send them back. The Trantulace 44.5s fit comfortably. Definitely don't buy bigger than your normal shoe size. Better to go a half size smaller.

I love these! I’m just getting into bouldering so total newbie so I was looking for affordable beginner shoes. Had been climbing in rentals and the difference between actual bouldering shoes is so ridiculously significantly noticeably better than rental shoes. I stick to the wall like a gnat and could actually complete/send routes with them better. I do have to wear socks with them cause the shoe has a high back (where the Achilles is). I look forward going to the gym just to get to wear these shoes
