Not a great canyon harness
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- XS/S
- Height:
- 6' 1"
- Weight:
- 158
When it comes to canyons, you have two options: Buy cheap harnesses, wear them out (alternatively, downcycle your climbing harness to a climbing harness occasionally, buy a new climbing harness), or buy a pricey canyon harness which tends to weigh a lot. I'd rather just burn through climbing harnesses. I climb in a Petzl Corax. My first canyon harness was also a Petzl Corax. I prefer four-buckle styles with releasable leg loops over three-buckle styles, as these are easier to put on over mountaineering attire or wetsuits, and likewise offer better adjustment for a variety of conditions. In any case, the Corax is kind of my standard by which I evaluate other things. This Metolius has a few deficiencies: - The average adult male literally is right on the cusp of sizing. In winter gear, the XS/S is too small for me, but it adjusts properly in typical summer canyon attire. The M/L is the opposite problem - I can size it down on my winter gear, but it's too sloppy on my summer attire. I'm 6-1, 33 waist, 158 pounds - not anything exceptional. - It's way too hard to adjust when it's wet. Like, the belt buckles do not move. It's extremely annoying. - The loops are like limp noodles and difficult to clip when wet. - The leg loops are deeply uncomfortable compared to a Corax. I can rappel, quite comfortably, in a Corax on long rappels. I did the big 300 rappel outta Heaps and the same one on Englestead and started getting discomfort in my legs 2/3 of the way down on each. - The butt strap broke, like, two canyons into ownership. This is probably a great harness for climbing or occasional alpine stuff, where your weight isn't going to be on it for minutes at a time. It does not do well when wet, does not hold up to abuse, and otherwise just seems... inefficiently engineered.

only harnesses that stays on straight
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I picked this harness because I was tired of the 3 buckle versions that flood the market and never fit quite right. With the four buckles all the loops are symmetrical and there's no playing around with the elastic in the back.

Ophir 4 improved 2.0
This is my second Ophir harness (updated this year) because the first one was great. This Ophir has the wear indicator and an updated waistband that keeps the belay loop centered. The straps are padded so an all-day Tower or high COPE class is not uncomfortableat all. Money well-spent on a product I don't worry about.

Great Harness at a great price
I love that this harness has indication of when it is too worn to continue use. While this is not a guarantee it is so nice to have piece of mind that you have a indicator just in case. I love the 4 way adjusting and the gear loops are great as well. Great for a intermediate climber and works great in canyons as well. look at the sizing I wish I had gone a size smaller. Overall amazing product love mammut!

Pretty decent harness.
Comfortable harness, smaller gear loops and the leg loops don’t tighten too much. But overall a good harness.

This harness has a really wide range of adjustability. I'm a size 32 waist and ordered the M-XL. My waist is on the smaller side of the recommended range for this size, but it still feels very secure. The leg loops have a wide range of adjustability too. This adjustability really comes in handy when you want to add an extra layer of clothing for cold weather. It's a solid all around harness - I mainly use it for sport climbing and it works great. It's very breathable and comfortable as well.

Comfortable harness
The fit is interesting. I'm 30-31" waist, got a large, and it's almost too big for me. It is a little clunky, I don't mind it, but I could see where it would get in the way.
