Why We Like The Merrell Moab Speed 2 Hiking Shoe
For running shoe comfort and agility with hiking boot support and protection, we look to the Merrell Moab Speed 2 Hiking Shoe. Now equipped with multi-directional Vibram lugs, this pair bites into soft earth and sticks to dirty rocks for confidence-boosting traction. The ripstop upper brushes off rugged conditions while letting our toes feel the breeze underneath, and the FlexPlate underfoot increases our lateral stability on uneven terrain to ward off turned ankles yet still allows forefoot flexion for comfortable climbing. No matter how far we go, the generous stack of foam pads the ground to keep our soles from getting sore.

Hike Lake Tahoe in Moab Speed 2’s
Great hiking shoes. Used these in the Nevada Sierra Mountains outside of Lake Tahoe to hike the Cascade Falls. Comfortable, good traction, great fit.

Almost…
Got a tremendous price, couldn’t resist. I ordered a half-size up and they were still too small and narrow…

Made for wide heels
Like other Moabs I have purchased, these are true to f size and have a roomy toe box, but they are wide and too roomy in the heel, which for me causes heel blistering because my heel will slide up/down too much.

Moab 2 by Merrell ✓∆
This hiking 🥾 shoe 👟 is my best fitting of the ones I have. It is very breathable, and has an aggressive Vibram sole. With the bright 🌻 orange 🍊 midsole you are more visible when 🤞 crossing 🚸 the road. In the summer ⛱️ these can in many cases substitute for 6" boots.

Upgrade
Got these to replace some very old Merrell hiking shoes (around 8 years old i think). Wow what a huge difference. These are so light, so breathable, and just worked right out of the box. I did about 25 miles of hiking the week after I got them, and I was the only one in our group that didn’t develop blisters or foot pain. Great hiking shoes!

Nice shoes but toe pain
I bought these a little over a month ago in anticipation of a trek in the Andes at the end of the summer. They're solid with great quality. But... they trashed my right foot - specifically, pressure on the top of my toes and blisters on the sides. It's very odd, I have an older pair of Merrells that are great but maybe this is a one off. Wore the shoes for 50+ miles to fully suss them out but at about the 5 mile mark on hikes I couldn't wait to get them off for the pain in my toes. Tried different socks (thin/medium/thick), different lacing and knots, and bandaid/taping combos. Nothing helped - again they were comfortable for the 1st 5 miles then the pain began. Have never had this with any other shoe or boot I've owned. I'll use them for running errands but won't ever hike or walk in them. (would have given them 1 star but the left shoe was fine).

Great for travel with mix of hiking and city walks
I bought these for general hiking, but the immediate intent was to have something capable on hikes while light enough for city walking for an upcoming trip to Switzerland. They were just what I wanted, light enough for travel but grippy and heavy enough for trails. I had the Moab 3s and really loved them, and I feel like these are a lighter more mobile version of those. I even did a 30 min trail run in them and they felt pretty good, although I wouldn't use them as dedicated trail runners.
