Why We Like The Merrell MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx Trail Running Shoe
Made for elite Merrell athletes, the MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx Trail Running Shoe turns up the performance while trimming ounces off our feet. This evolution of the Long Sky 2 features ventilated mesh uppers made from a blend of Kevlar and nylon for a lightweight build that's nevertheless highly abrasion resistant to protect our feet as we rip through brush and run over rocky trails. The midsoles are made from Merrell's premium FloatPro foam for lightweight cushioning while the outsoles feature the premium wet and dry traction of Vibram Megagrip rubber. It's also a vegan-friendly shoe that's made in part with recycled materials to reduce our environmental impact as we get out there.

Great Shoe
Very good. Surprised at rock protection for how little stack. Bummer it runs long and easily gets debris into the shoes. If bought again, would go down half size.

Very stable on technical trails
Has very good stability and low center of gravity which is the main criteria trail shoes should be judged by for the technical southwestern US terrain. The trend nowadays is to go with more cushioning and thicker soles. Hard to find shows with lower stack heights that still provide a good amount of support.

Sockliner Squeak!!!
I hardly complain about Merrell MTL products because they're pretty fantastic for me, but I just received my Long Sky 2 Matryx in Mantis a couple of days ago and had to say something. I'm not sure who in the R&D department thought the bottom material of the sockliner was a good idea, but OMG I had to replace them almost immediately! They are so smooth and shiny that they sound like you're opening and closing a styrofoam cooler with every step! It is the most annoying sound you can have on a trail, lol. Thankfully I kept the insoles from a different pair of sneakers. Otherwise I love the Matryx version of these shoes, I feel like they corrected a lot of the for issues I encountered with the regular version. But wow that squeak is crazy!

Disappointed
I purchased these shoes recently and am finding them, as another reviewer noted, unwearable. I developed a heel blister from a seam and for the first time i am disappointed with a Merrell shoe (I’ve owned quite a few pairs).

Great Performance Questionable Durability
Performance wise the shoe is great. However after one trail 5k race the sole of the shoe started to separate from the upper.

Blisters
I was looking forward to buying the MTL Long Sky 2 Matryxes last month after putting several hundred miles on a pair of Moab Flights trail running shoes, among the best shoes I ever owned. I have worn the Matryxes once, having developed blisters after the first mile. Unlike the Moabs, which have a smooth inside heel construction, the Matryxes feature what Merrell might euphemistically call an additional heel pad. I would refer to it as an abrasive ridge that constitutes a design defect and renders the shoes unwearable. I have read similar complaints from at least two other users.

Lightweight and durable!
I bought these for a more lightweight shoe for hiking- I did a small hike of 4 miles to break them in and I swear they didn’t need any. They fit so perfectly and were so grippy! I love these so much and I’m so happy with them.
