Here's what customers have to say

The minimalist trail shoe has a comfortable, glove-like fit and lightweight construction that many users appreciate for hiking, running, and everyday wear. Customers praise the good grip on various terrains, though some note issues with the durability of the sole. While some feel the shoe provides less ground feel compared to previous versions, it seems to be a solid option for many users, though fit may vary.

I have about 5 pairs of these Merrels; Love them. I love 5 finger, no drop, in contact with the ground type shoes. Nothing like bare feet without dirt kn the bottom of your feet. These are also Vibram soles and that means even more awesome when it comes to grip, scrambling rock, wet surfaces. A lot of folks dont like the separation of 5-finger shoes, so I offer these would be the next best shoe to that experience. I do a bit of trail running, and like my 5-finger, these offer that tactile feel of your feet on the ground. Once i have a pair laced up, I double knot the ties and then use a shoe-horn or my finger to slip back in. Super comfy.

Great entry barefoot shoes

I opted for this model as I wanted to try barefoot shoes but since my walking is mainly in the city I was anxious about too small of a cushion at the soles. While made for trail not city, these have proven to be a great transition shoes. Having worn them exclusively for the past month I am confident they will last me a while. the soles will likely go out first, but so far they look pretty good. The traction is decent both on dry and wet surfaces and they are satisfactorily breathable.

Room for improvement

Great minimalist shoe but short lifespan. Merrell needs to change the tread pattern to a design that won’t wear off so fast. The current design is grippy but wears to bald very fast which is frustrating given the price. Also every pair of trail gloves I have owned have had issues with the rubber sole edges peeling away from the fabric shoe box after a couple days of wearing. Maybe needs a stronger adhesive used. I still keep buying the Trail gloves because it’s the type of shoe I prefer to wear, but Meryl has room for improvement for the Trail Glove 8 version.

Arthritic ankle pain helped posterior heel pain

I have arthritis on the posterior (backside) of my right ankle. This arthritis makes it very painful for me to walk on a downhill slope because it puts more pressure on the posterior aspect of the ankle joint. I can walk uphill no problem. Shoes that have a half inch heel hurt me as well because they caused my heel to be lifted compared to my front foot. In essence it’s causing me to put more pressure on the post to your side of my ankle joint. I was looking for shoes that had no extra heel lift yet still had good arch support and I tried several brands and then I came across these Meryll shoes which had no heel lift in the heel. I was able to walk quite comfortably with good art support. And the grip from the tread on the bottom of the shoe is amazing. My first pair lasted me about two years and I just ordered and received my second pair. I’m very pleased with them. My orthopedic surgeon tells me that I’ll soon have total ankle replacement surgery. Then I maybe can get back into regular shoes. But these Merrills are really comfortable. I may stay with them. I love them and if you have problems walking in shoes with a little bit of a heel these will really help

Second skin for your feet

So comfortable, fits like a second skin over my feet. I can feel the ground, without the sharp pain when I step on a pebble or root. The sole wraps around your heel and insole in a way that provides just a bit of structure and stability. These have quickly become my daily shoe, and I’m slowly adding runs in them as I transition from running shoes with a higher heel drop.

Respectable shoes

Not Trailglove 4s, but they’ve grown on me. Have done walks, 20+ mile bike ride, and short hikes. I still miss the fit of Trailglove 4s. They were simply the best version in my view. These are good though. I like wearing them. This was almost my final purchase of Merrell’s after dissatisfaction with my past couple purchases. Eh…maybe I’d buy them again.
