Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket

In high alpine conditions there's nothing more important than lightweight warmth and protection, which is why you'll catch us wearing our Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket while we're in the mountains. The jacket weighs less than half a pound and packs down easily into its own pocket for compact carry. The 800-fill down stays warm and lofty, protected from passing showers and shoulder season snow storms by a DWR coating. The elastic hood and adjustable draw-cord hem trap warmth close to our bodies and the slim fit slides on easily beneath our outer shell.

Here's what customers have to say

The jacket is widely praised for its exceptional warmth, lightweight, and packability, keeping users cozy even in very cold conditions. Customers describe it as soft, comfortable, and flattering. However, some have experienced issues with the fit, particularly in the armpits and shoulders, and a few noted concerns about the durability of the fabric. Additionally, some found the sizing to be inconsistent. Overall, the jacket provides exceptional warmth and performance, especially for its weight, though the fit may not work for everyone.

Very Disappointed

The only positives are that the jacket fits and is lightweight. I bought it for backpacking. The light green fabric is translucent and the clumps of down show through making the jacket appear to be soiled. When I washed the jacket, according to the washing down instructions, it took 6 runs through the dryer, with tennis balls, to get it even dry enough to hang up to hang up because the down clumps up. It is still clumped up. I might as well have used my 32 Degree down jacket which washes perfectly, is WAY less expensive, keeps me warm, and is only minimally more lightweight. I was doubly disappointed because I generally LOVE Mountain Hardwear.

A must take for summer backpacking trips

Lightweight and still warm and stylish. An easy to pack and much needed comfy jacket for cool evenings in the mountains. Well made, fits well and although it feels delicate, withstood some rough handling.

Great jacket. Long shipping.

Great jacket. Just know that shipping takes a long time. The time between me placing my order and receiving the item was 13 days. I kept contacting the website and asking about delivery and kept being told “it will arrive tomorrow (it didn’t)”. So if you can wait a while, again, great jacket at a great price.

Lovely, except for the pits...

This jacket is truly lightweight, warm, packable, and honestly super flattering. I love my Ghost Whisperer and would absolutely recommend it to others. The one thing I really don't like is that the armpits are super tight and end up getting sweaty super fast, which means I have to wash it way more than I'd like to, given how delicate it is. It can also be kind of uncomfortable in the armpits when layering with other clothes for that reason. The rest of the jacket fits really well, though I would say it probably runs a bit small. Another half inch in the armpits would make this jacket literally perfect.

Sizes are small

Super lightweight, and I had to buy a size larger. Hard to say if it will be warm enough in the mountains winter weather conditions next year.

Super light weight and warm

Nice jacket! I chose the Copper Clay color in Medium. This jacket will be replacing my Small, Black MHW Micro Ratio jacket, which I've loved wearing for many years, but is now shedding the down feathers like crazy. I usually buy jackets in the Black color, just so that the color matches with all my clothes. But when I saw this Copper Clay color, I thought it'd be nice to try something different. When I received it, I wasn't sure I liked it. But now that I've had it a couple of weeks, the color has grown on me and I like it. I'd describe the color as a caramel-burnt orange. The 800 fill jacket is super lightweight and warm. It's warmer and lighter weight than my 650 Fill Micro Ratio jacket, which isn't surprising. It's shed a few tiny feathers so far, but I'm hoping it will last as long as my Micro Ratio jacket and not shed too much too soon. Most of my upper body is a size Small, but I sized up to a Medium because my midlife belly needed a bit more room. As such, the rest of it fits loosely, but I'm OK with that.

Lighter jacket perfect for Spring weather

I loved the pants so much that I ordered the jacket as well for Spring, the jacket isn’t as warm as the pants, somehow? But it’s perfect for Spring weather, & light enough to tie around my waist if it gets too warm out during my walk. So compact it’s Great to pack for a trip too. I actually initially thought this jacket would be as warm as the pants , but still not dissatisfied with it!

Tears easily

This is easily one of the poorest quality puffys (or is it spelled “puffies”?) I’ve ever owned. I have about 5-6 that I’ll rotate between and this one has had two significant tears in the fabric that required repairs, whereas the others have held up extremely well. I’m disappointed given the expense of the product and how poorly it holds up to regular use. It’s been maybe a year that I’ve had it. Do not recommend.
