Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket

Mountain Hardwear has built a legacy by making the lightest, toughest gear in our closets, designed to thrive in the most demanding environments on Earth. The Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket pushes the boundaries further than we thought possible, clocking in at an industry-leading 6.7 ounces. The Ghost Whisperer utilizes down with the highest fill rating on the market, at 1000-fill, making it extremely light and compressible for a barely-there feeling, whether on our back or in our pack. The DWR treatment protects the down from passing showers or light snow, and the ultralight nylon ripstop is exceptionally breathable, so we stay cool while we're conquering towering peaks.

The zippers will rip the fabric!!!!!!

I just got this jacket for a bike packing trip in Spain and I have not even worn it yet. Be careful with the zippers, because they will rip the jacket fabric very easily. The main zipper got hung up and while I was gently trying to fix it the fabric tore. Then, the pocket zipper it got hung up on very small thread that is stitched near the zipper. I don't have time to send it back to Mountain Hardware for repairs, so I guess will need to pursue it after my trip. I'm fairly disappointed considering the cost of the jacket and the good reviews.

Wonderful company, very good jacket.

Mountain hardware stands behind their products more than any other company I know. This is a big part of why I buy their products. I like this jacket very much because it’s very light and very warm and looks great. There are two small drawbacks with this particular jacket. One is there is no wasteline drawstring to keep the cold from coming up from under. The other is the fragility of the zipper. It needs to be treated with extreme gentleness because it is so lightweight that it will bind if not zipped or unzipped carefully.

Best down jacket you’ll ever put on!

Excellent addition to my daily use and outdoor recreation clothing gear. The jacket packs down quickly to about the size of a 500 mL water bottle. The Ghost Whisper UL has become a key piece of layering gear for mountaineering, hikes, and just around town. Super light, comfortable, warm, and stylish. Checks all the boxes. If MH makes a non-hooded version of the 1000 fill, I would absolutely buy that as well.

Fragile

Warm, light, but mine ripped on the sleeve after light wear and the down has started coming out. Shame, was a great jacket but I think it's too fragile. Let's see what MHs warrantee service is like. Will determine if I buy from them again.

Jacket amazing. Company needs to re evaluate.

Product 4.5 stars. Mountain Hardwear 2 stars. Not offering repairs for a hit in run on the slopes on their product prefer to waste the jacket and telling me to buy a new one. Environmental standards are low.

Can't cinch the waist

My only problem with this jacket is the lack of an adjustable drawcord at the waist. Although all openings on the jacket are elastic, given the sizing the waist is too wide and I can feel drafts coming up through the bottom. Probably an ounce shaving decision. Otherwise it is everything that I need and expect from a UL puffy.

Great mid layer puffy

Awesome piece of gear. It’s lighter than a mouse fart, but warm as a Marshall pufffy combined. This jacket was purchased with climbing Kilimanjaro in mind and will be bringing it with in January. The only other puffy that compares is the whisperer/2 which trades a little down loft for a slightly tougher shell fabric.

Good Jacket with One Problem

This jacket is so light and warm, and I love it, but I wish it could cinch shut at the waist. I had to order a size up because I have big shoulders, but now the jacket lets out a lot of my heat because it isn't cinched tight around my waist properly!

Light, warm, and fits well

Had this jacket a few weeks now and am blown away. Pack it anywhere, sleep in it, wear it out to dinner, it’ll do it all.
