Why We Like The Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket

The original Ghost Whisperer was already one of the lightest down jackets on the market, but we love that Mountain Hardwear had to go even lighter with the Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket. At a scant six ounces, the Ghost Whisperer UL utilizes down insulation with the highest fill rating available.

1000-fill down doesn't mean this is the warmest, loftiest jacket around, but rather the lightest and most compressible down that you could find. That down adds to the jacket's lightness and lets you pack the whole thing in its own pocket for compact storage. Mountain Hardwear also changed the shell with a 5D ripstop for lighter weight, and it still has a DWR treatment for water-resistance against passing showers or snowfall.

Killer UL jacket

Absolutely killer jacket. Bought it to use for teaching a backpacking class in the late fall in high mountains of Idaho where it can get pretty cold pretty quick. Used it in -10f weather with a baselayer underneath and shell on top and stayed toasty the whole time. Provides an honestly impressive amount of wind resistance even on the seams. A lot of people claim durability issues but I've used it climbing, backpacking, and bikepacking for about two years now and it's done amazingly. Well done Mountain Hardwear!

Great puffy with two complaints

Large

I can already tell this is going to be a great addition to the jacket quiver. It is amazingly light weight. I bought this to replace my beloved Arcteryx synthetic insulated jacket. I have two semi-minor complaints about this jacket though. The first is that the sleeve cuffs are massive. They could have easily take 1.5" off, and they still would have been plenty big for people with large wrists and hands. The large fits great almost everywhere besides the cuffs...why are outdoor apparel companies making the sleeve cuffs on jackets so massive now?! The cuff goes all the way down to the middle of my palm, and I have pretty average to slightly above average size wrists and hands for a 6 foot male. The other complaint is that they didn't put an elastic cinch at the waist. I'm guessing the weight add would be very minimal, so I'm not sure why they opted not to put one in. Because of these two issues, I can see the potential for heat leak at the waist and the sleeve cuffs. I wish I could get the sleeve cuffs tailored...

Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer™ UL Hoody

I recently purchased the Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer™ UL Hoody, and I’m absolutely thrilled with its performance. This jacket is incredibly lightweight, making it perfect for hiking and outdoor adventures without adding any bulk. Despite its minimal weight, it provides excellent warmth thanks to its high-quality down insulation. I was especially impressed with how well it packs down into its own pocket, making it easy to store when I don’t need it. The fit is spot on—comfortable, yet not too snug, allowing for good layering options. I’ve also noticed how wind-resistant it is, which is a huge plus when I’m out in more unpredictable weather conditions. The water-resistant fabric has kept me dry during light rain, and the overall build feels durable despite being ultra-light. This is definitely a top-notch piece of gear for anyone who values both warmth and portability in their outdoor apparel. Highly recommend!

Light weight but heavy warmth

The lightest and warmest jacket I've ever owned! The construction is top-notch and the fit is exactly as expected.

Light and Warm

super light and warm. Men's small fits me well and I am a 5'7" 130 lb woman. The womens coats seem too short. It is expensive but it is significantly warmer than even my 800 fill lightweight puffy.

Unbelievably Light

Unbelievably light and well constructed. It was a little more money than I wanted to spend, but once I received the jacket I have no regrets!

I’m happy

I think that the jacket is great. But I’ve worn it two times. And I can tell that the zipper is going to be the first thing that goes. To flimsy but I understand it’s prob the way you save a tone of weight. Going to put it to the test!

Way too big. Not an athletic fit like the older Ghost Whisperer.

I already own a Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer jacket from 2016-2017, so I ordered the same SMALL version of this jacket, because it fits perfectly on my SMALL body with MEDIUM length arms. This v2 UL jacket is much wider in the torso AND the sleeves are 2" shorter for the same SMALL size. I was super disappointed. Returned it.
