Fantastic warm synthetic puffy layer
- Familiarity:

Expectations are the key to satisfaction. Don't expect this jacket to be Waterproof. It's more snow proof. Also, as an air permeable layer, don't expect it to be Windproof. Think about this more as a really well insulated, really warm, really water resistant, really breathable softshell. Because it's twice as thick as most 60g puffies, it's not super compressible, but it is super warm and super comfy. If you're expecting waterproof, Windproof, or down levels of compressibility, you'll be disappointed. But if you're expecting a big, warm, breathable, synthetic puffy, you'll be really satisfied. Wouldn't recommend for rain or wet snow. Hood is also really well insulated, but too small to go over a helmet and too puffy to go under. 42" chest, 32" waist, Medium fits fantastic. But if you plan on layering under, id have to go up to a L for even a 42.5" chest.

Awful
Backcountry never delivered this item and never took accountability for it either.

Warm, but not dry
Really wanted to like this jacket, but the waterproofing leaves a lot to be desired. The jacket is light and warm. Fit is unnecessarily boxy, but I was willing to overlook that for what I hoped was decent warmth, waterproofing and packability. Good ventilation control too. But, the jacket simply doesn’t stand up to anything more than a few minutes of mist, never mind actual rain before seams and creases are soaked through. Worn in SE Alaska, Vancouver, and all over Alberta in all kinds of weather and altitudes.
