When we’re heading out for a summit push or a lightweight adventure, the Mountain Hardwear UL 20L Backpack is our go-to companion. Built with durable, recycled 200D ripstop nylon, this pack handles rugged conditions while staying ultralight and packable. Its versatile design features a drawstring closure and an innovative center strap for compressing loads or securing bulky gear like climbing ropes.
We love the thoughtful details, like adjustable bottle pockets made for durability, breathable air mesh shoulder straps for comfort, and reflective accents for added visibility. Whether stowing it for backup or carrying it for a quick ascent, this pack proves that big adventures can come in small packages.

Excellent size, shape, weight
Of course, you can't be dragging this one up a granite chimney on a rope, but the 210D high-tenacity nylon is surprisingly sturdy for its weight. Caveats: Personally, I stick a piece of foam (or a bladder) in the hydration sleeve to mitigate one of the main issues with all super-ultralight packs: pokey items hitting you in the back. Or you can just pack carefully. If all you're hauling is a nalgene and a puffy, you can make the load feel like a cloud. If you've got approach shoes and hardware you have to be more careful in your packing. You'll also note that when the pack is all strapped and ready to go, the front cinch strap covers the outside pocket. Not a deal-breaker, but somewhat inconvenient. And, in fact, the little web loop near the top that keeps your cinch strap from flopping about also makes it harder to move the strap to get into said pocket (though, overall, I approve of it as a design choice). Finally, the side bottle (?) pocket ... is a bit oddly shaped. Not all bottles will ride securely and not flop out. If you can test it in a store, try your own favorite bottle to be sure. The general shape and size are spec'd perfectly. This is a nice looking top-loader, easy to get into, and perfect for throwing in your luggage when you MIGHT want to hit the peaks after your business meeting. But, again, for its weight and packability this is an exceptionally versatile and useful pack. Sure you need to pack it carefully. And sure it doesn't have much shape unless it is substantially full. But for what it is, and what it aims to do, it's quite nice.

Great lightweight pack
Great pack. Lightweight and perfect to toss in a backpacking bag if you're looking to bring a small backpack with you inside of a larger backpacking pack, or something of the like. Also good to toss some stuff into for hikes or whatnot! Would definitely recommend. Feels solidly water resistant/waterproof but haven't tested it in downpour :)

Less is more
I bought this for an extended trip to Asia. The pack handles make it easy to load on buses and planes. The main compartment drawstring closure is handy if you’re looking to stuff the pack tightly. When the center strap is pulled down tightly , it compresses the load. The design of this bag makes it easy to walk around comfortably while looking for your accommodations. Go light!
