3 Way 18 Expandable Briefcase

Great organization style

I bought this about a month ago and wanted to see how this would be to travel. This has been able to fit my personal and govt laptop, two set clothes and my hygiene bag. I have yet to expand it, but it fits perfectly under my seat and able to carry all my essentials needed when I go for assignments.

This bag is super sturdy and spacious when expanded. Exactly what I was looking for. Knocked a star off because it's crazy to me that thing retails for ≈$200 and has no padding on the shoulder strap. I have MR bags that were a third of the price and have a padded shoulder strap.

"Almost" Perfect personal travel briefcase

I was looking for a personal carry bag for weekend travel and spent months narrowing down possible options. I wanted a bag that I could carry either as a backpack or briefcase and fit under an airline seat. I've had the bag for a few weeks and am happy with my decision. The bag measures 11” x 16.5” x 6” with a zip out section that adds approximately four inches (5 liters) of extra room and fits standard packing cubes for overnight/weekend travel. Love the satisfying "click" of the metal clasp on the front flap. It’s easy to use and holds the front flap securely. The bag has three small pockets to hold my computer related products and two mesh and zippered compartments to secure small/valuable items within the bag. There is another medium pocket that is sized for a tablet and I also found two "hidden" areas within the bag to stash small items such as a rainfly or similar sized items. While this is a great bag, I did find a couple of areas that were an issue (and no, it's not the shoulder strap) The first is the material in the construction of the bag. It’s heavy duty 500 Cordura nylon, is well made and should hold up well. It is, however, a bit of a lint magnet and I find myself wiping down the exterior on a regular basis. The bag holds a 15" notebook, but just barely; another half/one inch width would have been preferable. My decision to choose the Mystery Ranch 18 over others I reviewed lies with the fact that many are backpack oriented bags with the ability to use as a shoulder/briefcase. I preferred a briefcase with the option to sometimes carry as a backpack.

Super Versatile & Durable

I bought this bag for its versatility and it's working exactly as hoped. It's my daily briefcase for work and has ample room for everything I need (large laptop included) without being too heavy. Then when I travel, it turns into a backpack so I don't have to transfer my stuff to a separate bag whenever I fly. I LOVE the magnet on the front flap as it's easy to open and closes itself when I drop the flap. Bombproof material/construction means I'll probably be using this bag for at least a decade!

Love this bag!!

I love this bag. Nothing bad to say, only a request: On the next design, integrate the laptop easy access feature. Example: on the Ripruck, there a natural fold on the laptop sleeve that makes getting the computer out super easy. I wish this bad had that feature. I do highly recommend this bag as EDC.

A great all around travel bag!

This is a fantastic travel bag. It is extremely well built and looks great. I do wish there was some better pocket organization, but it is still awesome.

Exactly what I had hoped for

I've had it a month. 20 commutes and 4 domestic flights and I am still glad I bought it! Get a set of Void bags to match, you won't be sorry. I wish there was a built in way to retain the unruly and unreasonably long backpack straps however.

I throughly enjoy this bag. It has a spot for all my go to stuff. Super convenient and easy to access the things I need!

18 Expandable Briefcase - Impressive!

Some history…I’m early 60’s and any job I have had, whether it be in the hospitality industry, commercial estate or any other, a brief case or backpack was needed….so I have used many over the years, most name brands, and I thought well built. This MR backpack/briefcase is by far the most well designed and well built backpack/briefcase I have had..bar none. I carry a laptop, extra screen, all the power/cables needed plus 3 or more 1” thick files. A lot of —-! Not a problem for this bag, and I have not had to use the ‘expand’ feature. I highly recommend!

Nice, thought out briefcase

Well made, thoughtful design and understated bag. Good price as well. Always impressed with Mystery Ranch products and their price points.
