Why We Like The Mystery Ranch Radix 47L Backpack

The Mystery Ranch Radix 47L Backpack perfectly toes the line between a gear-intensive daypack and an overnight backpacking bag. The 47 liters of internal space is just enough room for us to pack our lightweight backpacking gear or hold food, water, and layers on ambitious day hikes. The lightweight aluminum frame can be removed for maximum weight savings, allowing us to burn some rubber as we zoom along the trail, or can be left in for structured, stable support. The external side and back pockets all expand to accommodate larger items or can be compressed down for a sleeker profile, and the offset front panel zipper allows us to get a full view of our pack and quickly grab what we need without having to completely unpack.

Another solid MR Bag

After looking at purchasing this since it hit the market, I finally did and am very pleased. I own a Pintler 40L and 65L Terraframe, so I'm used to the MR comfort and stability their frames offer. I was immediately impressed with the feel/carry of the Radix 47 once I had it packed out for a weekend backpacking trip with my usual gear. I thought the Radix carried better than the Terraframe over the 18 mile weekend hike. It wasn't just the lighter bag weight-the Radix just carried better. I like the simple main bag storage access with the long zipper and top access. I also like the built in side pouches on the hip belt that aren't on the Terraframe pack system. It wasn't just the lighter weight packThe side pouches are the right size for pocket items and other small items without being bulky. I like the exterior storage on the pack with the side pouches for water bottles and large-ish middle area to stash layers or store wet/damp items. Two things I knew the pack didn't have that some other brand packs have are a removable brain and roll top main compartment. These would be two nice options for this pack-or a brain that is a bit more functional (velcro down sides so it is more secure).

Still squeaky!

First, I have carried MR packs throughout my career in Special Operations and totally trust MR with quality construction and detailed design. No complaints whatsoever to the overall setup and weight. But by John Muir's shoestrings, the frame squeaking never stops! I have the exact same issue with my Coolee 40. I love you Mystery Ranch, but I should not have to go into wilderness for peace and quiet only to have my pack continuously squeak non-stop. If there is any recommendations on getting the the frame to stop squeaking please let me know (yes I have made every possible adjustment). Both packs also need slightly more airy back padding.

Great backpack

I have not had a chance to use the pack, but it's impressive straight out of the bag. It has the same excellent built quality that you expect with Mystery Ranch.

New purchase, Imitially looks great!

Ive had this for a couple weeks now, so not a lot of use so far. Loaded with a 24hr kit (~20lbs) it carries great. Fit and finish are very good, all seams and stitching are tight and straight. The compression strap buckles are somewhat small, so will be interesting to see how those hold up. But the fact the straps are removable is great, you can easily change them out for something heavier in event of failure. Hip belt pockets are a little small, but well placed with easy to operate zippers. The adjustable torso length is easy to use and works well. Hip belt fits well, with lots of length available to go from being in shorts to full winter kit.

Mystery Ranch Durability -- Light Weight!

I LOVE this pack. I have this and the Radix 57 as well, and several other packs from MR. All of them carry a load amazingly well, and all are very durable. The Radix series is great for backpacking, they're light and extremely well built and thought out. This line has everything I need, carries loads extremely comfortably for a long time, and isn't overburdened with overdesigned pockets, zips, compartments, etc. A really versatile, well-designed backpacker's dream.

The Perfect Pack!

I bought this pack about 6 months ago for a through hike around Mt. Blanc in France. I trained carrying a 45 lbs load six miles roundtrip up and down a peak by my house with 2500' vertical gain. After probably 50 up and downs for training and then the through hike of 100 miles around the Trail Du Mont Blanc, I must say this pack does not disappoint. I honestly have nothing negative. Every time I thought a feature was silly or didn't work I found an opportunity to use it later on. -The top is large and spacious with a huge pocket. The extra waterproof durable zipper holds everything in and keeps it dry. -Large internal pocket with a nice side zipper when you need it. I also like the cinch strap and the over latch that fits really well. -Exterior is perfect. From hanging wet socks in the pole holders to cramming rain gear and water bottles on the outside. I also stuck in micro trax in the pockets for quick use on snow travel. -Straps are super comfortable (make sure you follower their sizing and fitting videos!). Back piece is comfortable and breathes perfect. My last thought is I highly recommend the zoid bags. I bought the small black on for extra quick stuff at the top (headlamp, inreach, etc...) and then my toiletries went in the big orange on the sipper side of the bag. Get the clear ones...they are time savers! This is an amazing bag. I looked a lot of other bags....a lot of other bags. I ultimately pulled the trigger with Mystery Ranch because they stood by their product. However, I got quite the chuckle when I rolled into Chamonix on day 8 of being on the trail hiking anywhere from 12-22 miles a day in snow and rain, and my bag still looked brand new! So the ultimate downfall is you don't get any street cred for a tattered roughed up bag because it is bomber. Highly recommend, five stars, you won't regret!

Amazing backpack

In the field: the bag is quickly forgotten, the comfort is incredible (better than the Osprey Aether which for me is one of the benchmarks in terms of comfort despite more padding on the Osprey) but that is specific to each person of course. I think the independent RADIX belt must play a role? Maybe, in any case the comfort is fantastic. Sorry for the broken English, I use google translate
