Lightweight room for two plus storm protection in Dragonfly OSMO Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"This is my go-to 2P when I want real liveability without carrying a ‘hotel.’ OSMO holds shape in all-night rain, and the vestibules swallow packs easily."

We split the load and cover miles, then stretch out inside the NEMO Dragonfly OSMO 2P. Smart pole geometry and vertical sidewalls open the interior so two can sit up, sort gear, and ride out weather comfortably.OSMO fabric resists sag when saturated, keeping pitch tension and weatherproofness dialed from dusk to dawn.

Both big and small

I went with the 2P based on reviews saying the 1P was a bit small for one person. It is plenty big for one person, even with a bunch of gear. It is a small 2P backpacking tent - but that is what one is buying with an ultralight. Two people will fit for sheltered sleeping. I wouldn't want to do much beyond sleeping.

Great backpacking tent

My outfitter had me use this tent for 12 nights in the Yukon on my Dall sheep hunt and I loved it. Super light, roomy for one person, compact packing, easy to setup and take down, easy to pack back up. This is the lightest, most compact two man tent I’ve ever seen making it ideal when you’re trying to keep as much weight out of your pack as possible. We got rained on several times and it stayed dry inside. Looking at other reviews I’m assuming user errors.

Trail Test Time

I just purchased a Dragonfly OZMO 2P and am looking forward to seeing how it performs on the trail. It will reduce my 2P tent weight by nearly 2 pounds. To help the tent last longer, I also purchased the footprint. I will update the review after trail.testing.

For the price point maybe the worst

I have had this tent for about a year and avoid using it whenever possible. A huge design flaw for me is the bag for the tent. It is nearly impossible to get it back in especially if you leave the ground sheet attached. Tents like the hornet have a wider mouth to the bag which seems to work better. Getting in and out of this tent is a pain because of so much Velcro on the door. Also no true rain fly vent seems like a miss. Messing with the door vent works ok but it’s more of a pain then just popping open one or two big vents. Osmo is the most slippery fabric ever so packing it or laying it on something to dry is tough. The night light placement for the flashlight is good but the opening seems like the worst place out of the three potential ones, as it is a triangle. Inside storage is small near your head. Basically I guide for a living and I would never bring this tent. I use it for my dog and I on short trips fishing and everything about it drives me crazy like it was designed in a lab and not tested by humans using it.

Favorable First Impression

I recently purchased the Dragonfly OSMO UL 2P tent to replace an older, heavier 2P tent. I have used it only once and I like what I see. By upgrading, I've shaved almost two pounds from my basic load. I'm 6' and 175 pounds and, although I often sleep alone, I prefer the extra space for my gear - especially in the winter months. This tent offers plenty of room as a solo camper. Set up is very straightforward and simple. I plan to put this tent through its paces this upcoming year. That's when I'll know more about durability. I also bought the footprint to go with it and strongly recommend doing so when purchasing any tent.

Too Delicate

I really wanted to like this tent and it has some great features. But on the second night of a three week hiking trip it broke a pole and ripped the flysheet under moderate wind conditions: none of the nine other tents in use around our Osmo Dragonfly were damaged at all. It might be OK in mild conditions, but I can't recommend it for use when the weather ramps up a bit, and since I don't always know when this will be, I would never use a Nemo Dragonfly on an extended trek again. It's too delicate. PS: we completed our three week trek using a Naturehike Mongar tent. It may not have the bells and whistles of the Dragonfly, but it coped just fine with the conditions (and cost a lot less too).

Good unless it rains

This is a great tent….IF you camp when it isn’t raining. I’m basically echoing what a lot of others have said unfortunately. The good is that it goes up easily (even for one person) and there’s enough room for my husband and I. However, the one night we took it out and it rained it was horrible. It didn’t even rain that much…a VERY tiny cell of rain. We woke up to lots of wetness having leaked through the head end where the cut out in the fly was. Pretty disappointed honestly. It’s such an expensive tent and I expected a lot more! So now we have to look into a new tent bc this one can’t be used in last minute rainy situations imo.

Well thought out design features

Finally got to use this tent this last weekend and I couldn’t get over the design of this thing. Not just the overall tent but the features it has from the clips, to the poles, to the interior pockets. Everything had been throughly thought through during the design of this tent. Now I have the previous model “dragonfly 2” (not osmos) only difference being the fabric used I believe. Which if I had one thing to point out about the tent is the fabric on the floor is definitely thin, there’s no way I’d feel comfortable using without a foot print. I’m curious if the “osmo” has a stronger floor than my previous model. I think I’m a Nemo customer for life though, after realizing the quality of this I now want see if Nemo makes as good of a sleeping pad as they do a tent. The tensor all season seems to have awesome reviews as well.

No better tent!

I have owned this tent for over 5 years. It has thousands of kilometers of travel on bicycles, in kayaks and motorcycle adventure touring. It has been setup from mountain tops to Death Valley, and in weather ranging from torrid rain to desert heat. This is an excellent tent. The tent is really bomb proof. It repels water very well while maintaining its light weight packability. The dual vestibules provide easy access from either side and tons of storage space for packs, panniers, or other gear you want out of view or out of the weather. The air flow is really good too. The fly can be off, partially open, or fully open to the zippered doors. The new OSMO fabric version has improved the fly flap hold-back, making it easier to secure and release (especially in the dark). The inside of the tent provides plenty of room to move about. It also has good storage pockets for your stuff, a nice loft in the top of the tent and a couple neat little light-diffusing holders above the head area that allows to tuck your head-light into them and light up the whole tent. The Dragonfly has lots of options to secure it down (helpful in strong winds or to keep the tent a fly tight in rain events). There is no better tent peg than NEMO peg. I have pounded a lot tent pegs and these are simply the best! I will provide a couple of comments that might be helpful to either the person considering the tent and for NEMO. First, I would suggest the optional footprint for the tent. While never an absolute requirement the footprint does provide just a little added protection for the floor of the tent. Second, the buyer will have to acquire a couple more tent pegs if they want to use all the securing guy line tie-downs. The third consideration is NEMO's Warranty. I had an issue with my first tent and they fully stood behind their product - absolutely without question. And finally, a comment to NEMO. The foot-end fly guy line is affixed to the fly at a point up the ridge pole. While this helps secure the structure of the tent it does not provide any relief of the fly from the base of the tent. So, with or without this guy line secured rain runs down the fly and onto the tent body rather than being directed away from the tent itself. Moving the attachment to the bottom edge of the fly would fix this. All in all I have never owned a better 2-person tent (including Moss, MSR, Mountain Equipment Coop, Kelty). Well done NEMO!!
