Why We Like The Osprey Packs Soelden 22L Backpack
Osprey's Soelden 22 Backpack blends a clean, minimalist aesthetic with a fully-featured design tailored for backcountry touring. It's the smaller of the two Soelden Backpacks, and it can hold all of our essentials for shorter tours. The front panel delivers quick access to necessary avalanche gear like a probe and shovel, and the back access allows you to reach the main compartment with skis or a snowboard still strapped to the pack. Osprey fabricated it out of water-resistant materials with snow-shedding padding at the back, shoulder straps, and waist belt.

A lifesaver
I submitted one review of this backpack before on altitude-sports as I received it (but not used it). Just came back from skiing on Mont Tremblant with my two children, and this backpack was a lifesaver. I was able to carry three pairs of skis (two on backpack, one in my hands), food, chocolates and drinks for my kids, spare gloves and even my light down jacket in it (when it was very warm on ski slopes). Zippers were strong, I was able to open/close them with one hand while holding backpack in another. It repels snow, water. And after a week of skiing every day, it still looks brand new - no damage from sharp skis or anything else. I can't recommend it more than this. The only con - the mesh is too small for large helmets, I was unable to fit my helmet on the back of the backpack.

Improvement from previous generations
The new Soelden/Sporis Line has me stoked! Osprey has done well to ditch some weight and simplify the design of their ski packs without sacrificing function and durability. The Soelden 22 is simpler and lighter than the previous Kamber model, yet it holds nearly as much as the old Kamber 32, while being less bulky. It makes for a perfect sidecountry pack that can do double duty on fast and light backcountry missions - it will easily carry snacks, skins, a liter of H2O, First Aid Kit and a puffy. Send it!

Awesome Little Bag
This is an awesome little pack. I can't speak highly enough of the organization system. Being able to access gear (layers, skins, etc) without creating a mess where your life saving equoment is stored (probe poles, shovel, etc) is a game changer. Just wish there was an external sleeve for water bottles on the way up, but I guess that is the compromise that had to be made for the multipe ski strap options. This pack is perfect for a simple skin up and ski down, but has neough space for bigger tours if you pack smart. Spent a month in Breckenridge this winter with a peak right behind the house to skin up. This pack was perfect.

No passthrough for hydration/radio hose/cable!
There is no dedicated pocket for the hydration pack (it sits with all your other ""dry"" gear) so one little leak and all your items are potentially ruined. I would not recommend this pack if you plan on having anything electronic in your bag in company with the hydration pack. Additionally, I can't find the pass through for the hose, meaning you have to leave the zipper open to pass the hose/radio wire through. It really doesn't make much sense. Not worth the price! Will be returning ASAP.

Great light and fast pack for the backcountry!
Perfect pack for a day in the backcountry (or a roomy pack for inbounds). Really appreciate the radio pocket and holes for the mic wire and hydration hose.

Still work in progress....
Osprey continues to make improvements but just hasn't dialed in a skiing backpack to where it feels entirely optimized and natural. Small things, like the removal of the zippered water reservoir hose insulation on the shoulder strap, which the Kamber had and adds barely any weight are an annoyance. The a frame carry option in a 22 sized pack is a huge plus. Maybe the next generation will have it all.
