Push through storm days in the Cloudchaser 3L Jacket—weatherproof, breathable, and built to move
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I’ve worn the Cloudchaser 3L Jacket on everything from deep powder days to spring tours, and it holds up incredibly well. The shell fabric is durable and stretchy, keeping me dry without restricting movement. Venting zips dump heat fast on climbs, and I’m a big fan of the forearm pass pocket—it’s surprisingly handy."
When we’re chasing storm cycles and skinning into fresh lines, the Outdoor Research Cloudchaser 3L Jacket is our go-to shell for backcountry touring. Built with Pertex Shield 3L stretch fabric, this jacket strikes a rare balance between protection and mobility. It breathes on the skintrack, blocks wind on exposed ridgelines, and seals out snow with smart features like a powder skirt and helmet-compatible hood.
Every detail feels dialed for touring. The Cloudchaser releases heat quickly with large underarm vents and stashes essentials in thoughtfully placed pockets, including a ski pass sleeve and massive internal mesh stash. The 100% recycled face fabric holds up to tree branches and pack straps while delivering trustworthy waterproofing. From stormy dawn patrols to sunny summit pushes, this is the shell we reach for again and again.

Functional, Breathable Hardshell for Backcountry and Resort Skiing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This jacket is a hardshell with a softshell feeling. It's nice and stretchy, soft, and generally breathable. I don't like being in hardshells during high output activities, but it's not bad in the Cloudchaser 3L jacket. I believe this jacket is intended for backcountry use, but also has the versatility of being a resort jacket because it has a pocket on the left forearm in which a resort pass can be placed. Other features include one left zippered chest pocket, bilateral armpit zips, powder skirt, helmet compatible hood with cinches at the back of the head and face, sealed zippers and taped seams, velcro wrist cinches, internal left pocket for gloves, 2 external zippered hand pockets, and a loop on both the inside and outside of the jacket for hanging. The color scheme is also pretty sleek and the blue is very appealing in a lower key way. I'm 5'7'' and 165 lbs and wear a medium. It's a regular fit and has room to put multiple insulating layers underneath including a puffy. What would I change about this jacket? I'd add one more internal pocket. Outdoor Research gave me this free product to try.

Finally found a breathable shell for high-output touring
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I typically never wear a shell when touring even when it is dumping snow. My philosophy was I would rather be wet from the snow than from my own sweat. This year Outdoor Research gave me this free product to try so I figured I would challenge my conventions and force myself to wear a shell on the uphill when the weather was inclement. While it isn't the magically garment I want that causes zero perspiration, and is 100% waterproof I was very surprised and how well it breathed and let me expel heat without trigger excessive sweating. Pockets are well though out, and arm vents are sufficiently long to give the extra cooling needed during high output recreation.
