Outdoor Research Helium Down Hoodie – My Most Comfortable Insulated Jacket
This is hands-down the most comfortable insulated jacket I own. The Helium Down Hoodie by Outdoor Research has become a staple in my rotation, especially with the long, cold winters we get here in Bozeman, Montana. I wear it constantly—whether I’m heading out around town, skiing at Bridger, or layering up before a dawn patrol hike. It’s surprisingly warm for how light it is, thanks to the 800-fill down, and the outer shell uses Pertex Quantum with Diamond Fuse technology, which helps it resist abrasion better than other lightweight puffies I’ve worn. That durability makes a real difference when you’re wearing it under a shell, bushwhacking, or stuffing it into a pack on repeat. I’ve also used it a lot as a warmer layer on backpacking trips—it packs down small into its own stuff sack and disappears in the bottom of my bag until I need it. Perfect for high-elevation camps or cool mornings on the trail when you just want something that’s warm without being bulky. Breathability is solid for a down piece, and I haven’t had issues with overheating during moderate activity. Fit is athletic but not too tight—easy to layer under or over depending on the conditions. If you’re looking for a light, warm, and comfortable down jacket that can handle real cold and still pack down small, the Helium Down Hoodie is an awesome choice. It’s been through a lot with me already, and I expect it’ll see a lot more use.

Awesome
Exactly what I needed. Great for winters in Montana and traveling to Alaska. Warm, windproof. Haven’t tested the waterproof ability yet, but keeps me dry in a snowstorm. Will be packing it in my backpack for a wind river trip this fall.

Best jacket ive ever purchased
I bought a couple of yrs ago and really impressed in all weathers it is my go to jacket as it keeps me warm in all conditions - if its wet I wear a waterproof light goretex jacket on top - my favourite features are the external chest zip pocket for my phone and the internal stash pockets - I need to get another as sadly with age I need a larger one - couldn't recommend more highly (and it feels so light)

Great Jacket
One of my favorite down jackets in my collection. It has great fill and added material in the arms and shoulders for water resistance and toughness. Not as slim and tapered as patagonia but a great fit and true to size. It worked great for a two week trip through Europe in January. This is a great everyday jacket for the winter months!

Verify your size
I was thrilled to receive this jacket as I had been looking at it for some time. I am 5'7" 150lbs and my measurements align with the sizing chart but I put it on and when I lifted my arms it was like a belly shirt, very disappointed! I recommend trying it on at a physical store if you are able to do so and definitely size up or go 2 sizes up if you're unable to do a test fit.

Perfect puffer
This is great three season jacket on its own it also pairs well as insulation layer under any shell. From wearing in town to sleeping in it this has served me well. The waterproof shoulders is great when setting up camp in light snow or rain and not get soaked through

wamr and durable
used this at work during -30°f temps with layers and kept me plenty warm. the thicker material on the shoulders protected the jacked from a heavy weighted survey vest and the jacket has held up very well for extended periods outside in the woods, may be a bit warm for vigorous activity but perfect for normal use in cold temps.

Really liked the look and weight of the jacket. I usually wear a medium but found this particular cut a little too tight for my liking. 5’10” 165

Its a great packable. I would say it’s slightly small and or more form fitting. Took it to a packers game and it worked great. Kept me warm.
