Helium Rain Mitt provides ultralight, waterproof hand protection for fast alpine missions
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I keep the Helium Rain Mitts in my pack at all times—they're featherlight, totally waterproof, and perfect for tossing over liners when weather rolls in. They pack down so small, I forget they’re even there until I need them."
When fast-changing weather threatens to derail our momentum in the mountains, the Outdoor Research Helium Rain Mitt is our ultralight insurance policy. Designed for alpine climbers, fast-packers, and minimalists, these shell mitts use bluesign®-approved Pertex® Shield Diamond Fuse fabric to provide waterproof, windproof protection without sacrificing breathability or packability.
Weighing next to nothing and compressing down small, the Helium Rain Mitts slide easily over liners or light gloves, offering versatile protection during sudden downpours or extended wet travel. A pull-on loop makes it easy to gear up in the cold, and the durable 30D ripstop fabric stands up to alpine abrasion. Whether we're trekking through shoulder-season squalls or charging high ridgelines, these mitts are built to disappear in our pack until the weather says otherwise.

So lightweight I always bring them.
I take these out trail running and hiking in fall/winter because they pack away to nothing in my pack or shorts pocket, and I can throw them on over my liner gloves if it gets wet/cold/super windy.

Keeps your soft gloves dry on the mountain
Got these at the start of mountaineering season as a quick waterproof layer to pull on over lighter gloves for wet weather and when the grade gets steep enough to need a hand contacting the snow/ice. Also great for knocking off wind in cooler conditions where you don't want to pull on a bulkier glove for protection. Got caught in some flash rain on Mt St Helens first time out, and they saved us having to swap out gloves repeatedly. No fuss, fewer stops. Combine with a light fleece glove and you've covered for anything over 40 degrees
