Helium Rain Pant delivers ultralight, waterproof protection for fast-moving adventures

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I never hit the trail without these rain pants—they're incredibly lightweight, pack down small, and provide serious waterproof protection. The Pertex Shield fabric keeps me dry without feeling clammy, and the gusseted crotch lets me move freely while hiking. The ankle zippers make it easy to pull them on over boots when storms roll in, and I love that they stuff into their own pocket for easy storage."

When dark clouds appear on the horizon, we reach for the Helium Rain Pant, knowing we’ll stay dry without being weighed down. Made with Pertex® Shield fabric, these pants offer waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection in a lightweight, packable design—perfect for those unpredictable backcountry storms.

We love how the gusseted crotch gives us full mobility while scrambling over slick terrain, and the ankle zippers make it easy to slip them on over boots. The back pocket doubles as a stuff sack for effortless packing, and the carabiner loop ensures we can clip them to our pack for quick access. Built for storm-ready performance, the Helium Rain Pant is a must-have for any adventure where the forecast is uncertain.

August 23, 2025

Perfect for the right adventure!

I use the Helium rain pants for 483 miles along the length of the Colorado Trail July/August 2025. I experienced several afternoon thunderstorms during that time, most of which lasted no more than around 20 minutes. These rain pants were perfect for ensuring that I stayed warm on trail even when it was raining, especially at altitude. If you are looking for rain pants that will keep you perfectly dry, then these are probably not the rain pants for you. They are very breathable (aka not totally waterproof) for rain pants and super lightweight, perfect for thru-hikes and summer hikes where limited rain is expected. Typically, when I would get to camp in the evening, I would put these pants on immediately as a way to shield myself from getting bit by mosquitoes and as a layer between myself and the dirty ground while sitting around eating dinner. Then I would put them back on in the morning when temps were still hovering around the 40° mark to keep myself warm as I began the day’s hike. If thunderstorms rolled in during the afternoon, I would slip these on along with my poncho and find a place to either take cover from the storm or continue hiking in the rain. The material dries very quickly, except for the ankle cuffs which take slightly longer to dry completely. Since these are an ultralight rain pants, they only come with one zippered pocket. I appreciated having one pocket for random items around camp that I needed to keep on my person and he easily accessible. Overall, I really like these rain pants for how they preformed at their weight and intended use. If I were in a wetter, colder, or on more rugged/less maintained trail then I would opt for a more robust pant. For quick, light expeditions on maintained trail in mostly dry conditions these are perfect!
