Wildfire 2 GTX Approach Shoe - Men's

Serious Work Shoe

I’ve spent a year in these. Not a climber anymore, so I couldn’t rate it as an approach shoe. It performed great in gravel and hills I took it up in the wilds of WV. It’s my go-to shoe for the range, light hiking, and anywhere I need enhanced grip. It’s definitely a climbing shoe by heritage, so it’s not comfortable. I can’t wear it all day. It’s narrow for me but it did break in somewhat over time and the laces allow for a lot of adjustment. I appreciate the precision and control I get during IDPA and other events where I need to know where my feet are exactly, but I wouldn’t use it for driving or auto cross where I need enhanced feel through the sole bed. The styling isn’t formal enough for the east coast, but would definitely fit in with the Seattle crowd. In short, a shoe that falls JUST SHORT of being a specialist style of footwear, and not comfortable enough to be a generalist. It probably excels as an approach shoe, but I couldn’t say. If you’re looking for a shoe that maximizes grip on loose soil for short periods (2-4 hours) of time: buy now. If that’s not you, pass. Also, consider sizing up a half size.

Great shoes very comfortable fit. Was going to use just for hiking but now are my everyday shoes. I use the wide insole and the fit is perfect

I absolutely love Salewa. The craftsmanship and quality is second to none! I prefer these over Salomon’s!

Comfortable, not the most precise.

As an approach shoe, this definitely feels like it lacks the precise fit up front many approach shoes lean into, and that may be due to the lacing pattern and toe rand. However, as a burly hiking shoe with good traction and weatherproofing, it works great. the climbing area on the toe is showing some wear, but not excessive compared to the amount of abuse I've put it through. The tread pattern in the midfoot and heel is solid for traction, but does have a tendency to retain small pebbles. Good overall, but doesn't exceed expectations.

Well built but for very narrow feet.

Update- I have used these on open terrain and hilly terrain with sheet rock and other crappy rock. These were great against the rock, but a little too stiff in the ankles for long use of the terrain. These are great, for their terrain!!! Yes , I would buy again. I like these. I haven’t had a chance to really test them in the elements yet, however, so far they are very comfortable. They do make you want to walk so standing isn’t the best as they feel like they push you forward, which is what they are meant to do.

Great but narrow fit

Great build quality as I’ve come to know and expect with Salewa. First fit issue I’ve had. Find they are a more narrow to box than I’ve experienced in the past, would have order the wide option had I known. Not a terrible thing for more technical approaches and low 5th class climbing but a lot of toe bang/ cramped space on the way down the mountain. I have owned several pairs of alp trainer mids, and a pair of wildfire mids where I’ve ordered the same size and had no problems. Still a great product.

Amazing Grip

These shoes are awesome! They are perfect for scrambles and light east soloing or tough approaches. They also make a really good hiking shoe but i wouldn't want to do anymore then 4 to 5 miles as they don't have that much padding. All in all a great shoe that does everything it says.

Solidly constructed, stable and comfortable

Great hiking shoes that double as mtn biking shoes. fit is great for mid =width foot
