6 days on the Appalachian Trail
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- 10 1/2
- Weight:
- 180
I bought these for a 6 day hike on the Georgia section of the Appalachian trail. Over 70miles they outperformed expectations on nearly every level. Enough cushion to provide relief on long hikes and enough stability for the tactical portions of the trail. Excellent heal and ankle support. The heal padding and design eased the jarring of rocks on descents while also allowing for easy rolling from heal to toe. Snug fit kept foot tightly in place with minimal slippage (no blisters!) The toe is reinforced enough to protect against rocks and roots and flexible enough for easy maneuvering. The grip provided excellent traction going up and down steep rock formations. Light weight and durable. Could not have asked for a better shoe for the hike. Improved the experience immeasurably!

Poor Gore-Tex qualities
Poor quality shoe, really disappointed. Was purchased for its goretex qualities and wore them for the the first time in wet conditions adnd they are absolute rubbish. I have non fortes shoes that keep my feet drier. Feeling a little ripped off

Great for long wet dog walks
I bought the GTX version after having a great experience with the lighter version over summer. It's nice to have a Salomon shoe without quicklaces - they last longer

Great low hiking shoe!!!
Great low hiking shoe!!! Held up well hiking in Vancouver and Alaska. Had 2.5 inches of rain in Vancouver, and kept my feet dry.

Horrible shoe
Had these shoes now for about 6 months. Only moderate use. There is 3 of 4 tears in them, they leak. The soles are wore out. There is also a big bump wore up in the bottom of the shoe. Anyway not a great quality shoe at all.

Great fit
Shoe provides great support. It was quick to break in and it wears and feels like a much lighter shoe.

The best
Every Salomon shoe I have ever purchased have been very comfortable all day and with no break-in time. They feel great from the day you take them out of the box and feel the same six months later. The Elixir Active Goretex is no different. This is my second pair. I bought this second pair just for work. 10 hours a day on concrete floor and still ready to go at the end of the day!

Thoughts
Get a half size bigger. The quality is good however like all shoe manufacturers the inner sole is poor quality. It’s firm lacks cushioning and so over time it’s get uncomfortable.
