Almost great
The vest fits well, is light and smooth to the skin. The bottles are ok, didn't leak. Unfortunately, the front pockets are useless. Phones and gel packets bounce right out. Putting a phone in the side zipper pouch makes it hard to access, and pushes out the side, which then chafed against my inner arm. Returning after only one run. If the pockets don't hold anything in, the vest loses most function.

Excellent after modifications
Excellent vest with great fit and soft, breathable fabric. Unfortunately it needs several modifications to work properly. I don't know why Salomon couldn't have figured these out in testing. First off, the front open pockets are way too big at the top with no elastic. This causes gels and other items to fly out while running. The fix is to fold a portion of fabric at top of pocket and sew it so the opening is smaller. Now my phone and gels stay put on fast descents. Next, the water bottle retainer straps are too large and don't hold the flask caps tight. Tying a knot in each strap makes them the proper size. Lastly the screen printed quote by Francois on inside of vest mesh rubs your shirt and pills fabrics. You can rub the print off with your fingers until it's all gone. Takes about ten minutes. All this for one of the most expensive vests is kind of ridiculous but it's worth it since it fits so well. I love the open main back pocket that you can reach into without removing vest. The side zippers are a challenge to access but they work and hold salt tabs/ small items well. It's more comfortable than any of the other Salomon vests so I think it's worth it once you spend some time fixing it. With some small improvements the next version could be perfect.

Amazing - exactly what you want for going fast
I don’t understand the criticism of the vest, it’s made to be minimalist, this is not a “bring anything and everything vest”. The vest is amazingly comfortable, you just forget you’re wearing it. Capacity is good with a ton of pockets, you can access 4 zipper pockets without taking it off (2 shoulder, 2 ribcage). I did have to tie a know in the water bottle holder bungees, but now they are completely locked in. Sometimes gels get loose if you’re bombing down trail from The front pockets, but that’s any vest. My only complaint is I wish the back horizontal pocket had a Velcro or something. Have only had my phone pop out one time, but it would provide my peace of mind. Fabric is much better, softer than the standard salmon vests, no chafing ever. This is the exact vest you want if you’re trying to go fast

Not as reviewed by others
It’s an amazing piece. Super light and stable. The flasks stayed in place and the vest never budged. It’s intended for people who are looking for something light weight that can hold their stuff without budging and it did that. If you are an influencer wanting to fetch your phone every mile for a video then this is not for you because if you put your phone away, then you keep it there. I have taken it on many LONG runs since getting it a month ago and it’s been great.

Not fit for use
Bought this as wanted it for slightly longer runs that required more kit. The back pocket is fine and fits lots. The front pockets however are awful, really loose and baggy so my phone and nutrition bounce out when I’m running. The zip pockets are small and on the side, making them hard to access and also not big enough for a phone. So really can only be used to carry water and a coat, which is useless. Material on the inside is lovely and nice on the skin, the outer material though is thin and snags easily. Looks nice though.

Dont let the Amazing reviews fool you.
The vest is overall fine. I had to double knot the bottle straps just to keep the bottles from flopping around. The pockets are pretty bad, and there’s no room for a phone. I hope that those of us who purchased this supposedly “ultra” vest, including myself, can send it back and receive a product that’s actually worth the money and reliable for trail running. Because you can’t go ultra in this vest.

Pockets don’t hold anything
The best fits great but the two big pockets in the front are not tight so my phone and gels fall out disappointed.

Enjoying it so far
Best meets my expectations. I wanted something light weight and unnoticeable to carry more than my pockets and belt bag allow - mission accomplished. Really provides peace of mind on my weekend long runs, and worked as desired at my mountain marathon this weekend.

S Lab Ultra vest — woah! fit
Yeah this is crazy comfortable. —compared to: I’ve run 1000s of miles in my oldest (old blue) adv skin 12. The material on inside of this vest makes the (older) adv skin’s feel like sandpaper in comparison. Fit is a snug grip in all the right places. (Slim but not wirey runner in the case). I measured chest at 39.5 or 40” = medium? Nope, the medium was definitely too small. Large was my fit, just as with adv skin12. You can’t carry a bladder with this (not supposed to anyway) but can tuck another 500ml flask in the back Minimilist, great if you don’t need to haul too much water. 1 great new development: it seems the new adv skin 12s use more of the same materials as this s lab ultra, so that may be something to check out. I only got this because of sale. Otherwise—the new adv skin is comfortable, and can carry more when needed. I’m gonna run this thing top speed in a couple sub-ultra fun races and speedy trail days. Should be a blast.

Storage options are a deal breaker
This is a very comfortable, lightweight and breathable vest. However, Salomon totally missed the point on the storage options. I cannot see how you can fit 10L of "stuff" in it, except if you only pack clothes in it. As many people mentioned, this vest is missing a pocket for a phone. For many trail runners, having a phone easily accessible in case of emergency and secured into a pocket with a zip is absolutely critical. Even in race condition, many people want they phone accessible to capture a photo, check if they didn't go off route or provide an update to their crew. In that vest, your phone has be in the front pocket, without a zip, and may fly off your pocket quite easily. There are 4 small zipped pocket, 2 on the shoulders and 2 on the side. These are barely large enough to store a set of keys and a gel or 2. You cannot keep these in the main front pockets because they will fly off as soon as you go on a bumpy trail. You will regret buying that vest as soon as you try to fit items that you actually need on a trail run in it.
