Good fit!
Finally put them on and was pleased with the fit. It was a bit tight getting my foot in with the lacing, but felt good walking around. My 11 year old Salomon Gore Tex are giving up slowly and relegated to the woods. I am happy with the purchase.

disappointment
The Ultra 2 and 3 gtx shoes were comfortable when I first wore them. This is my third time trying to hike in them, but they are squeezing my toes, blistering, and the shoe itself is like a vice on my foot. The size is the same as before. Completely uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I can't return them, even though they were expensive.

Great look and highly functional!
I’ve been wearing various generations of the X Ultra for years now. Light hiking and long walks with my Lab. Perfect fit, great grip and still wearable for everyday use. A very narrow fit so be aware but my narrow feet approve.

Great Shoes if You Are Young and Skinny
I wear the X Ultra 4 mids. They are a dream. Especially the ease of putting them on and taking them off. I figured the X-5 low shoes would be the same. Not so. I am 67 years old. I am 6'2" and It has been a few pounds since my proper weight. I am active, but have 2 steel hips and half a steel knee. There is not enough "tongue" at the top to easily grasp it and slip my foot in. The boa lace system is cute, but it doesn't allow the shoe to expand enough to easily slide my foot in. Once my foot is mostly in, I have to reach down, reposition and unfold the tongue, wedge a finger in the back, and finish sliding my foot in. No big deal if you are 30 years old, but for a 67 year old... Compare this to the ultra X 4 mids: pull the tongue up and forward, slide the foot in like a ski boot, tighten the laces. Awkwardness aside, once on, they are wonderful shoes: good fit and support. They mold to my feet well. No break in required.

Don’t thing twice - the best hiking shoes
I had some low cut Solomon X ultra 3 similar to these that I used and loved until I basically wore out the lugs on the sole. For some dumb reason, I was persuaded to purchase some Vasque boots that looked nice, but were unwearable due to discomfort. I got smart and went back to the newest X Ultra 5 and was so happy I did. I took them out of the box on Saturday and happily wore them on a 10 mile hike Sunday. They felt fantastic. I’m curious if I would enjoy the mid version, but know that I love the low cut shoe. I’ve never had ankle issues requiring any special support, and just love the comfort of these and compare them to a more robust trail-runner. I normally wear a 10, and upsized to 10.5. They fit great, and the extra .5 paid dividends for my toe comfort descending down Mount Washington yesterday. I love that fact I can run some sections of my hike with these and they feel made for that. The Gor-Tex works great and my feet were not hot even with my Darn Tuff socks and Injini liners. 10/10 for these boots, and hoping they hold up like my last pair.

One Tough Trail Running One Tough Trail Running Sh
The new X Ultra 5 is one sturdy trail running shoe. Compared to the X Ultra 4, the redesigned ultra 5 and sturdier and stiffer making it great on technical trails. this trail runner verges on boots status making it a great choice for the Juan de Fuca or West Coast Trail.

Pretty good shoes. They are comfortable.
I really liked the look so I thought I would give them a try. So far I like the way they feel. Just a little loose on the heel but not much. From reading the other reviews, I did go up a half size and that was the correct choice. They do feel just a little more cushioned than my other pairs I have.

GREAT UPGRADE!! Excellent shoe
Ordered For John Muir Trail and have gone for multiple trail runs in them and they work quite well across varied terrain, they keep dry after being fully submerged while running in Oregon's torrential downpours. The fit is true to size like with all Salomon Products, I am a 9, and a 9 fits absolutely perfect. The insole works well and the Contragrip is exceptional as usual. Always very satisfied and very excited to hike the JMT in these.

Lacing system
I love the comfort and feel of these shoes, but the lacing system is definitely not it. No where to tuck the end of lace when tightened up. I've had the 4's for a couple years and have worn them maybe twice. Can't even get a regular lace through the hoop. Extremely disappointed.
