Nice inprovements fron Ultra 4 to 5

I've owned several pairs of the Ultra 4 Mid Gore-tex and love them. The fit right out of the box is great, and for me, require no breaking. I like the new fabric on the body of the boots and think it'll add to their longevity. With my Ultra 4s, over time, the fabric across the toe of boots eventually wears, exposing the inner part of the boot. Time will tell, but I expect the new fabric will be more durable.

U Ultra 5, May 2025

I already had 2 pairs of the old style Ultra 5 Pioneer, which were great until they failed - first the material at the big-toe knuckle is a flexure stress point which led to a crack and on the second the sole detatched. Neither boot had any real wear - actually the materials are pretty good and compare favourably with most other manufacturers. This latest boot is comfy, light, and feels more like a basket ball boot than a light hiking boot.. but its fine. Dont buy any of these boots if you think the Goretex gives you serious water protection - none of them holds water even if you just walk through damp grass; again, that's not a Salomon thing, all boots except all-leather are poor performers in the wet

Used for daily rugged activities

I’ve had this Ultra5 shoe for several months and use it daily for construction and equestrian-trail riding in rugged areas. For many years I’ve come back to the Ultra shoe products with Goretex because they last and remain intact in this harsh use. My only suggestion is for Salomon to provide a more supportive footbed. I always replace the ones the shoes ship with. I chose this new Ultra 5 because the product information says they made some improvements to the durability and that is important for the areas I wear this shoe into. Salomon—don’t stray too far from the original concept and I’ll keep coming back!

Just not the same support as the X Ultra 4 mid Gor

I have own several pairs of the X ultra 4 Mid Gore-tex and have enjoyed them. To the point that I have owned several pairs, and only replaced after many miles of walking and hiking have worn out the tread. The shoes all look good. With that said, I was excited to purchase the new X Ultra 5. Not so much after a few dozen miles. They do not give the support to the mid foot that the 4s did. They are light weight,, the traction is amazing, but no matter how hard I pull at the laces, there is just no support to the mid foot. More like trying to wear slippers while hiking. They will come my going out to town shoes, and I will purchase another pair of Ultra 4s if I can find them

Great boot!

I wore these for the first time and dis not want to take them off. We took them out west to hike in Yellowstone and were extremely comfortable and also had great ankle support which was a huge plus for me due to weak ankles. The shoes strings kept coming untied that was the only headache. I believe once the string get some wear in them it will be fine or just double knit them.

Comfortable and lightweight

Only worn these twice so the review is based off of the 2 wears, the 2nd time I wore them was for a grade 1 scramble, they are sturdy, provide sufficient grip, are comfortable and lightweight, can’t fault them currently.

Love this shoe

My first hiking shoe and i decided to go with these. Amazing quality. Grip is impeccable and I have a bad ankle injury history. These shoes keep my ankle stable and sturdy and secure Im usually a size 10, but i felt those were not tight enough , so i returned and got a size 9.5. They are perfect

Great shoe, very comfortable and light weight!

Bought these for an up coming trip to Montana. I have worn these several times making sure they’re broken in. I’m so pleased with my choice. They’re very well made, very light weight and so comfortable!

Perfect Hiking Boot

Bought these for a trip to Iceland, was surprised by how light and comfortable they are out of the box. Totally waterproof after stepping ankle deep in water every day. Couldn’t recommend any more.
