Lightweight and durable, the X Ultra 5 Mid GORE-TEX delivers confident traction and support on varied trails

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:The X Ultra 5 Mid GORE-TEX strikes a perfect balance between stability and agility. Its advanced chassis and Active Support wings provide excellent lateral support without sacrificing mobility. The Matryx upper is tough yet breathable, while the GORE-TEX membrane keeps feet dry in wet conditions. I’ve tested these boots on rocky scrambles, muddy paths, and snowmelt crossings, and they consistently offer superior grip and comfort for fast-moving hikes.”*

We trust the X Ultra 5 Mid GORE-TEX from Salomon to keep us moving confidently across unpredictable terrain. Whether charging uphill or descending slick rocks, these boots inspire us to push further and explore more.

Built for adventure, the X Ultra 5 Mid offers a lightweight yet durable design with a reinforced Matryx upper that resists abrasion and breathes well. Its GORE-TEX waterproofing keeps feet dry through streams and rain, while the molded OrthoLite insole cushions every step. The advanced chassis embedded in the outsole delivers stable lateral support, and the All Terrain Contagrip outsole grips muddy, rocky, or loose surfaces with ease.

Customer Images

Here's what customers have to say

The hiking boots offer good comfort, lightweight construction, traction, and waterproofing. However, some customers reported issues with the fit, including thick ankle padding causing discomfort and problems with the lacing system. A few customers also experienced durability problems over time. Overall, the boots seem to be a solid option, but the fit and design changes from the previous model have not been universally well-received, so trying them on before purchase is recommended.

Just wore out my X Ultra 4's moving to 5's

I bought my first pair of Salomon X Ultra 2 1/2 years ago, they have been the most comfortable, best gripping hiking boot I have ever had. Many trails later, the tread is thin and I am so excited to get a new pair of 5's, expecting the best!!

This model doesn't work for me

The quality and materials is industry leading. My problem with the X Ultra 5 is the ankle padding is far too thick causing uncomfortable pressure points. I came out of the X Ultra 4 and loved everything about those, however the ankle area on the 5 is easily twice what the 4 was. I put 16 hours of wear into the 5 but doubt I can use them for the intended purpose.

Worth the money

I have purchase several sports and outdoors shoes in my life. Definitely worth the money. In my previous life, we always say protect your feet because they will take you back home. This Solomon boots did that for me. You don’t take my words for it just try them.

Great boots, dysfunctional laces

I like the boots very much but on several occasions the laces become undone, or fall out of the top loops. Once they caught on a branch and I nearly fell down a hill. I tie them tightly, double knot them, but they just don’t stay tied

Great shoe

I had the previous version. Unfortunately the waterproofing failed on that one. Otherwise the shoe is great. I hope the waterproofing lasts with the shoe

excellent hiking shoes for rucking

I ruck several times a week with a 30 lb loaded pack, all seasons so snow ranging to hot weather is included. Most of the terrain is paved bike/foot trails. Over a period of up to ten years I will say that the best boots I have used are my Salomon mid Gore-Tex ultra's. They are extremely comfortable and me lots of traction with minimum foot/toe issues as long as I get the right size for my foot (leave some room in the toe box!). The only issue is that I need to buy a new pair every 6 months or so as the back of the heels wear down and start to make my foot strike unbalanced. I have seen other customers make the same complaint. It would be nice if tougher materials were used. Otherwise, I would buy these over and over.

Great comfortable shoe

A very firm but not an uncomfortable firm shoe. I use the shoe as an every day work boot. Normally need sole inserts but have not needed to buy any yet.

Do not buy - they sound like flip-flops

As some other reviews have noted, no matter what surface I walked on these sounded like flip-flops.
