Trail Lite 24L Backpack delivers dialed fit, smart access, and all-day hiking comfort

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"This pack has quickly become my favorite for day hikes. The fit adjustments and breathable back panel keep it comfortable even when I’m moving fast. I love the angled water bottle pockets and the quick-access phone pocket on the strap—it’s clear this was designed by people who hike."

When our goal is to move light and fast, the North Face Trail Lite 24L Backpack gives us everything we need to stay comfortable and organized all day. The North Face built this pack with a breathable, contoured back panel and dual sternum straps that provide a stable fit on steep climbs or long descents.

Inside, a large main compartment, internal mesh pocket, and dedicated hydration sleeve keep our gear dialed in, while two angled bottle pockets and hipbelt stash pockets ensure essentials are always within reach. External details like trekking pole carry, a front bungee for layers, and reflective hits round out this capable pack. Whether we’re racking up big miles or heading out for a mellow day on the trail, the Trail Lite 24 keeps the focus on the adventure.

I would buy again

Pack has extra straps which is helpful to wear while skiing or other activities. Basically I wore this in the back country (groomer off Milly) and dropped a 30+ ft cliff onto hard pack, luckily I was wearing this filled with beer and snacks otherwise the backslap likely would have disabled me.

Sleek and perfect size

This is my new go to hiking backpack, I like the it is a little longer than other backpacks, makes it so that it can fit a lot but it is not so bulky. This is my new day hike bag! I've taken it everywhere with me!

Perfect for long day hikes and snowshoes

I used this pack on a winter 7 miles, 3,200' elevation hike breaking trail most of the way. I packed from the bottom up: belay parka in a compression sack, burly goretex shell jacket, 2 one liter nalgene bottles, extra gloves, med/ emergency kit (about 1L in size), 2,500 calories of snacks, nanopuff jacket. Two headlamps and keys in the internal zip pocket, map and microspikes in the external zip pocket. Two 16oz waterbottles in each side pocket for 3L total, neither side waterbottle fell out while butt sliding down the trail. Samsung Galaxy S22 fit nicely in either chest pocket, chapstick in the elastic pockets. 25" snowshoes on the S/M pack were easy to put on a take off with a sling. I didn't use the zip pocket next to the waterbottle holder but it definitely seems like it could be useful. Used the double sternum strap (very comfortable!) to clip my gloves to the bottom and tuck them under the top so no snow fell in. I carried the pack around for 15 minutes with 30lbs of rice and beans in the back, it carries the weight well but you can feel items through the back if you don't pack right. No soreness the day after hiking. I plan to take this out on longer day hikes - presidential range, great range where I might want extra gear but don't want a 40+L pack. No signs of wear after a single hike getting snagged by trees, seems like it will be durable. Sizing: I typically wear my packs at 18" torso, the S/M mens is a perfect fit, I had about 1" extra waistband with a 28" waist. I bought the Deuter SpeedLite 28 womens but it was terribly tiny all over, this is everything I wanted that pack to be and better. Overall: Very well organized, lots of attachment points, lightweight, comfortable, and moves well with the wearer. Well worth the price.

Yes, but only for small animals.

It is a great backpack. It did not carry lamas- but I could fit groundhogs in it. Rhinos--no! Robins nest- yes (empty, of course)!
