Here's what customers have to say
The Thule kayak rack is generally well-received, with customers praising its ease of use, versatility, and sturdiness. Many noted it can accommodate one or two kayaks and is easy to load and secure. Some appreciated the compact design and ability to fold down the center arm. However, some reported issues with plastic components breaking, leading to dangerous situations. A few also found it difficult to use for shorter individuals. Overall, the rack seems good for many customers, but there are potential quality and usability concerns to consider.

Great concept - poor execution
I bought this to carry two kayaks as the description says. I have 6 different Kayaks and the rack doesn't fit any of them properly as the directions and diagrams show. The resting arm for the side of the kayak is 4 to 6 inches too short. I'm not sure what size kayaks they tested or designed with but zero of my kayaks will stay on the arm. They all jump off the arm during travel and end up hanging by the straps or resting on the cross bar. It's difficult enough to get the kayak on the roof of my SUV without damage - but then I have to find and balance the edge of the kayak on a less than 1 inch area while trying to strap them on.

Poor design, not safe
Cam straps kept loosening after every time we would secure and the rack was not holding the kayaks in place, slipped often. Very dangerous and stressful. Like others the plastic screw piece broke within the 1st couple uses.

Good rack.
Easy to use with one or two kayaks. My kayaks are around 40lbs each and I haven't had any issues. All the tie down straps have worked well.

Warning for 2 kayaks!
I have NEVER popped a kayak in decades of packing up boats until now. Additionally, this rack is quite difficult to install on some cross bars. Use a level. Hate it in my marrow and cannot recommend this rack unless it's for a single boat.

Great rack- works very we
I bought this rack about a month ago. Used 3 times for 2-kayak carrying. It works very well but important to settle the kayaks and tighten very well.

Simple and strong
We have used this rack for 2 trips. It does not lock, but is east to remove from the crossbar to be stowed inside the vehicle while we were camping. The rack is compact so that we were ae to carry a kayak and a canoe on our trips. After a 5 hour car ride, the vessels were still secure and stable. Excellent product.

Like it!
Nice quality, this mounted perfectly on Toyota OEM crossbars as the bracket is about 4" wide. I suggest putting the straps on the rack 1 kayak at a time and start with loading the side of the vehicle with the rack farthest away (if not centered) as it is easy to get them tangled and bunched over each other. Also, if you have an SUV you will be hopeless putting on 2 kayaks by yourself if you are under 6' tall. I bought my rack second hand (used once) from a shorter person with a big SUV.

Awesome product!
We have used the Thule Compass many times and we love it. The only issue is that it does take a while to load and secure boats. Not a huge deal and should get better with practice.
