Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier lifts the weight so you can load solo with ease
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
“I’ve used the Hullavator Pro on my car and it completely changed how often I get on the water. I don’t need a second person to load my kayak anymore. The gas-assist lift takes nearly half the weight, and I can lower it right to waist height. It’s a total game-changer for solo paddlers or anyone with a taller vehicle.”
We love getting on the water—but lifting a kayak over our heads after a long paddle? Not so much. Enter the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier, a lift-assist kayak rack that makes solo missions smoother than ever. Its gas struts handle up to 40 pounds of the boat’s weight, and the dual-extending arms lower the kayak up to three feet, so we can load and strap gear at waist height without a struggle. Whether we’re gearing up at sunrise or unloading after a long day on the river, this rack keeps the heavy lifting to a minimum.
Made with double-coated aluminum and steel, the Hullavator Pro is corrosion-resistant and built to last season after season. Eight padded contact points cradle our kayak securely, while included tie-downs keep everything locked in place. Compatible with a wide range of Thule crossbars, this rack turns your vehicle into a launch-ready machine—no help required.

So convenient
I bought this a couple weeks ago along with a Kayak for my wife, in order not to have to help her load and unload the kayak constantly for her, as she's kinda short and lacks the arms strength to haul the kayak onto the roof of our RAV4. And it is dope. The setup took some tweaking, but now she can get the kayak on and off effortlessly, and I don't need to leave the couch. And the rack comes off the roof rack in seconds also, so no moose horns killing my gas milage when I go to work. It's expensive but if you have a short wife who wants to use her kayak all the time, I highly recommend it, so you can get back to the baseball game.

Hullavater!!! Just do it.
What an awesome product. It makes it so easy to load up and go. My wife and I find it so simple to use and one of us could load it by ourselves if we had to. Highly recommend!

Almost perfect
Could use an installation video. For the price Thule charges, they should include a set of locks. Don’t be cheap Thule!

Hullavator install
I emailed Thule to make sure the Evo rack and the Hullavator will fit on my car. The person that I was emailing was excellent. Gave me a list of the parts I needed. The only thing I would say is that it was quite complicated installing the Evo wings. You don't use all the screws and parts. In the end the rack and Hullavator are excellent quality. I'm still waiting for the weather to improve so I can kayak.

Best Kayak Carrier Hands down.
I have been Kayaking and Paddle Boarding for 15 plus years. Sold my SUP and bought another Eddyline Kayak its a 12 footer. Today took the Hullavator Pro. out for the first time and loved it. So Easy my partner who will be 70 in a month reported she can now take it out herself. While loading boat at landing several people commented I want one of those! Thule is the Best!

Whistling noise
My 2023 Genesis GV70 was very quiet until the Thule EVO cross bars were installed. Now there's constant whistling noise which gets louder when the hullavator J bars are added to haul my kayak. The aerodynamic design fails to prevent annoying wind noise. Also the rubber channel strip periodically becomes loose and flaps around on the roof. Disappointing. The roof rack and hullavator were too expensive to scrap so the radio stays on to drown out the whistling wind noise!

Great product overall, but does not come w locks!
Very happy overall with this product, however the fact that it does not come with locks is outrageous. This is my 3rd Thule accessory purchase and I’ve loved every single one of them. I understand the “one lock” system Thule wants to offer, but I would much rather have a lock included for the price of this rack and carry a second key. Easy to install, lift assist is very convenient. A little unstable/shakey when kayak not in rack system.

Third Hullivator Purchase
There are some changes to the design since my first purchase some 20 years ago, hoping for the better. No longer any locking pin to positively lock the kayak in place. Hope this was fully proven. Also, considering the price paid, I expected locks to come with the rack. My old racks are still useable but the shocks need replacement and the plastic head on the adjustment screws broke long ago. Unit is pricey but it does last, easy to use.

The difference between getting out or not
I'm 5'2" with a 60 lb kayak and a tall vehicle. I hesitated in getting the hullavator for a couple.years because it's pricy and for me it would require an upgrade if my cross bars. Well I finally bit the bullet and made the purchase, I went with the square bars and even though the 139 was recommended on the site, based on my vehicle, I ordered the 150 because the hullavator needs 4 to 8 inches of overhang past the foot where it attaches to your vehicle side rails. The whole set up was easy to install myself. It didn't take long at all and I went slow to be sure to do it all to specifications. I could not be happier with the purchase as it means I can easily dash out for a paddle when the mood and the weather strikes without waiting on someone else to help me load and unload. If transport is your biggest barrier to getting on the water then just get the hullavator. I do have one complaint and it's more of an annoyance than anything. I had to search extensively to figure out if the racks and the hullavator came with a key to secure things. It appeared that the racks did but the hullavator did not so I went ahead and just ordered a 2 key set of the Thule one key (which was also hard to find on this site) Well I wish I would have gotten the 6 key set as the racks only came with a plastic toggle. Please Thule update your product descriptions to include whether or not your product includes a key lock (especially when your install directions imply that they do but they don't). It was disappointing to spend this much money and now still have to order extra bits and pieces. It would be a simple fix on your end.
