Thule Rail 18L Hydration Pack delivers secure fit, hydration, and protection on rowdy rides
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"This pack has seriously changed the game for my long trail rides. The Koroyd back protector gives me peace of mind bombing down technical descents, and the magnetic ReTrakt hose system means I stay hydrated without ever slowing down. It’s purpose-built for mountain biking—and it shows."
We ride further, push harder, and stay safer with the Thule Rail 18L Hydration Pack. It’s built with the trail addict in mind—those of us who don't flinch at steep switchbacks, long climbs, and rugged descents. With a 2.5L HydraPak reservoir and a secure, low-profile fit, it stays glued to our back without bounce, keeping water and gear comfortably in place.
Inside, there's a dedicated e-bike battery sleeve, internal organization for tools and snacks, and external pockets that make essentials like a wind shell or nutrition bar easy to grab. The removable Koroyd CE Level 1 back protector adds lightweight impact protection without restricting movement. And thanks to the breathable air mesh back panel and built-in rain cover, we stay cool and dry from trailhead to tailgate.

Great riding pack
Good storage space for bike tools etc, and with the straps I can carry pads and helmet for a long pedal up without the pack being bulky.

Performed better than I did
I took the Rail 18L bag with me when bikepacking down the Colorado Trail in 2022, and it handled it way better than I. Even when used a bit unconventionally, there was never a moment I wish had something different. I didn't use the hydration bladder for the trip as I stored my water in a frame bag, and had removed the spine protection pad as well for space & weight reduction. The bladder does get use though on my day rides, and I -love- the magnetic sleeve feature on the hose (plus, Hydrapak makes the best bladders of all the options I've tried over 10+ years). Onto comfort - it's easy to forget that the bag was there a lot of the time, even loaded as it was for 4-5 days between towns. It fastened securely without any significant bounce, and still did a good job of breathing up against my back. After 8-10 hours of wearing the bag, my sweat didn't soak through to the contents inside which was originally a concern. The hip belt provided tons of utility where I stored sunscreen, lip balm, and other misc items on one side, while I kept my phone on the other side for quick access for picture taking. The bag fit all of my spare clothes and the bulk of my food, and I strapped my fuel canister in a dry bag to the bottom of the Rail using the included straps - was very convenient. Tons of pockets for organization meant I knew where to find things quickly when needed. I used the sleeve Thule intended for an ebike battery as a place to store clean socks and shorts, which was really helpful. The included rain cover worked excellently, as it rained more in those two weeks than all the rain combined for the 6 years I've been in CO. I only made it down half the trail before my available time was up, and will finish in 2023. The Rail will most certainly be utilized again, and it's my go-to bag for biking & hiking day trips out. For shorter rides I use a Thule Vital 8L just to carry water really. And snacks, because snacks are great. Planning a long trip yourself? I highly suggest this bag, and also that Jolly Ranchers are taken with you, does wonders for dry mouth and morale.
