For Heaney-esque days.
Regardless of whether on a soggy gravel road or a muck-riddled 'cross course that's more reminiscent of Heaney poem than a sporting competition, TRP's Spyre SLC Mechanical Disc Brake Caliper has proven its merit. The bite is positive and the modulation is generous, giving you just the amount of speed-scrubbing control you need to ensure you don't overcook a corner and end up in the brush.
Compared to the standard Spyre, the Spyre SLC's incorporation of a carbon actuation lever trims a bit of weight and actually makes for more responsive braking. The Spyre SLC's even braking is no doubt helped by its dual-side actuation, which lets both pads squeeze instead of leaving one fixed. Less pad wear, less rotor wear, less potential for warping—the benefits of dual-sided actuation are legion.

Backcountry stole $83.99 from me
I typically have a really good experience with Backcountry until recently I ordered these brakes. I am doing my first bike build and read good things and I had 20% off so I ordered two. I ordered the wrong mount - so easy, I can return them or do an exchange. Well backcountry doesn't have a clear way to do an exchange so I requested a store credit so I could repurchase. Once my return was processed I was only refunded for one brake caliper when I returned two. I reached out and customer service made it out to be my fault. I dropped this off at a FedEx location with a paid label, the guy at FedEx told me I was good to go. Backcountry's return team is claiming I only sent one caliper back (in a five pound box) and customer service is telling me I needed a receipt from FedEx. I go back to FedEx explain the situation and they tell me "We aren't sure how a receipt would help. We just scan it and send it" I find any online tracking details I can to send to the gearheads, they keep telling me its not enough but they will put through a case to review the return anyway. There is no case number or tracking so you can't follow up or appeal in anyway. So basically backcountry stole $83.99 from me and I will never shop here again.
