Friend Camming Device delivers secure placements and extendable versatility on trad routes
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I’ve trusted Friends on everything from roadside cracks to long alpine pitches. The twin axle gives a wide range and bomber holding power, while the extendable sling saves me from burning through quickdraws. They place smoothly, clean easily, and the trigger feels rock solid even with gloves on—these cams earn their name every time I rack up."
The Wild Country Friend Camming Device continues the legacy of one of climbing’s most iconic protection pieces. Redesigned for modern trad routes, the Friend balances smooth handling with reliable bite, ensuring each placement inspires confidence when we’re runout above the last piece. The twin axle design expands its usable range and doubles as built-in cam stops, while the single stem and grippy trigger make operation intuitive and secure in the hand.
When the route starts to wander, the extendable Dyneema sling lets us cut down on rope drag without needing an extra quickdraw—perfect for alpine days or long, meandering cracks. Lightweight, durable, and easy to place, the Friend remains a trusted partner whether we’re building our first rack or fine-tuning a veteran’s collection.

Thumb loop sleeve will break
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
The thumb loop sleeve broke the first time I used the extended sling. Now the wire is exposed which will wear through the sling, so the cam is unusable. This was the result of a very minor catch on a cam that had been only used a few dozen times over a couple years. Every cam from another company I've owned lasted 10+ years, my Friend lasted less than 3.

Great cam and even cooler because it extends
I extend so much. Having the ability to have that already on the cam is a gift.

Super Solid Cam
I feel like I say this in every WC product I review, but these suckers are as light as it gets for a full strength affordable 4-lobe cam. I've never had trouble finding somewhere to place a friend, and they have become a staple on my harness. Could not recommend these enough to anyone who is just getting into trad climbing, or experienced trad climbers looking to try something besides a BD Camelot.

Used for short routes at the crag and for long alpine days. Friend is light, easy to place and remove, and the extendable sling is awesome! The coordination with BD colors/sizes is a nice touch. A solid workhorse/foundational piece for any rack (and at a better price than any other brand).

Great for a starting rack.
Wild country Friends are the best choice for the base of a solid rack. Light weight and durable a great starting point with desirable creature features while still keeping no frills ease of use at the forefront.

extendable slings are clutch when you're low on draws or just need a smidge more to length to help reduce drag
