Recon Stretch Pants with waterproof stretch and mobility for backcountry and resort days

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"These pants are my all-around winter go-to. The waterproof stretch fabric moves with me whether I’m touring or riding lifts, and the offset vents are great for dumping heat quickly. The adjustable waistband and articulated fit make them super comfortable for long days."

From long backcountry tours to storm laps at the resort, the Recon Stretch Pants are built to keep us moving comfortably through it all. Their BD.dry 3L waterproof stretch fabric blocks snow and wind while allowing natural movement thanks to articulated knees and a gusseted design.

Thoughtful features like offset side vents for efficient cooling, a high-mounted snow gaiter to keep powder out, and reinforced instep patches for durability make them ready for rugged mountain use. Two zippered thigh pockets, including one with an electronics tether, keep essentials close, while the adjustable Velcro waistband dials in the fit for any layering system. With a RECCO reflector for added safety, these pants are prepared for every mission.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. I love the color, the fit is comfortable and stretchy, and I’m really excited to see how it pairs for my winter adventures. I have preferred wearing bibs over the past few years to help mitigate the amount of snow I get in my pants or up my jacket if I fall in the snow. This pair of pants sit well around my waist so I’m excited to see how it will fair in the backcountry.

Another great product from BD

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These pants are a great option for someone who loves to get out ski touring but isn't a bib gal. They have a high quality feel, great fit, and overall are very comfortable. I haven't had the chance to try these on snow yet (hoping for our first days of the season here in CO soon) but I can already tell these are going to be my go to touring pants this season. Not only do they look sleek but the waist/rise of the pants is very comfortable, the side vents are going to be key for staying cool and not overheating, and the material/ weight of the pant feels like an excellence balance between warmth and functionality for moving in the backcountry. Excited to get these out on some snow soon! Disclosure: Black Diamond gave me this free product to try. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.

Black Diamond Recon Pants

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Black Diamond gave me this free product to try. I was a bit sceptical on trying a pair of ski pants as I have a difficult to fit bottom. I have a curvy fit, small waist, big hips/butt. I also often need to buy pants in short or petite length, although I usually fall between short and regular. I was pleasantly surprised how well these pants fit my waist and hips. The waist has adjustable side Velcro which is awesome for being able to skip the belt. The length was decent as well, not too long. There might be too short on a tall/long legged person. I would say they fit a little snugger than most large sized pants I have (I typically wear a 10 or 12 in jeans/pants). The pockets are nice and roomy without looking bulky. I really like the darker khaki cooler. Material feels durable, but not overly heavy. I have not put them to the test out skiing yet since we don't yet have skiable snow.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I cannot yet speak to their performance in snow, but my initial preview of these pants is good. They fit well, despite some extra space in odd spots like the outer thigh. They feel somewhat stretchy for shell pants. The pockets are deep and there are enough of them. Black diamond sent me this product to test, I am excited to try them out when ski season gets under way in a few weeks.
